He [Trump] may want the appearance that he welcomes “sunlight,” but it’s doubtful he wants the actual sun shining on this courtroom for all to see. Trump and his lawyers know better than anyone that a televised trial would likely backfire on Trump in the 2024 presidential election by reminding voters that he’s a lying, whining monster who tried to end our democracy as his last act in office.
Televising that trial would be a huge mistake and it is unbelievable that any sane individual thinks it is a good idea.
Anyone following that fucking narcissist cannot be swayed by evidence. It is just an opportunity for him to say things that will incite his followers to violence, or what ever he wants them to do.
The trial needs to be conducted by the book and fully documented and not televised.
We have to get out of the mindset that insanity can be won over by rational arguments. If OJs trial wasn’t the center of attention all America would know is that he was acquitted. Instead everyone understands that he got away with murder. He be doing tv ads and smiling from magazine covers today.
If it is not televised, public opinion will be swayed by daily post trial press conferences and interviews. The prosecution will not be doing those, and Trump will have the playing field to himself.
If the trial is televised, this will expose his followers to what is actually going on in the court room, not just the lies Trump is spouting.
While this case will be decided by the Judge, public opinion will be a factor, and it’s important to neutralize that aspect as much as possible.
I doubt the right wingers would ever see the full footage, instead relying on carefully selected and edited clips from right wing propaganda outlets
Fox tried pulling this trick during the Jan 6th inquiry, and they ended up just having to broadcast it. Their viewing figures would tank if they didn’t have the trial of the century, live and uninterrupted.
Maga will never believe their eyes and ears about the lies and crimes Trump does. They want to believe the lies, like it is the Democrats that break the law, and the 2020 election was rigged, and Biden indicted Trump to stop him from running for president.
They get all their information from Trump and social media. And a little mental illness and dumb make the lie magic work.

Televising it will just turn it into more of a circus. The Trump family will use it to spout their talking points, just like junior did recently with his rambling “history” of Trump inc at the other trial. Let’s not give them more reasons to turn this into a glorified infomercial for their brand.
Trump would sue the broadcaster to be paid for his acting performance. He would also play it up for attention not realizing he was incriminating himself

This is exactly why it should be televised. It won’t change either side’s mind, but regardless of the outcome, it will incite Democrats to vote next year.
The people who would see him in trial and decide that he’s unfit already think he’s unfit - there’s nothing to be gained. This would convince no one as his supporters would still vote for him if he was a vegetable at this point.
If we televise it, we’ll increase the chaos it causes, make it harder to get a conviction, and do nothing to convince his followers of anything. Remember Tucker Carlson getting the January 6 footage? The pro-Trump media outlets will do the same thing, selectively editing and showing only the parts that they want audiences to see.
