House Republicans may hold an official vote in the coming weeks on authorizing their impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Impeachment for what? He hasn’t fucking done anything. You can’t just impeach a president because they impeached your guy the last time.

Edit: Haha, a butthurt Republican came in and downvoted all of our posts.

Sadly, the Constitution is very vague on this point. They could impeach him for the color of his tie if they wanted. What history would say about that vote is a secondary concern to them.

I’m pretty sure that even Preacher Speaker Johnson knows this is a political loser for them. It’s purely red meat for their base, and it’ll piss off the other two-thirds of the voting public. But given the dysfunction in the House right now, he might not have much choice.

If it’s nepotism again, I have bad news about their favorite wannabe dictator…

Edit: it’s “corruption,” whatever that means.

The reason they’re giving: Something something Hunter Biden. (Despite having zero proof of anything improper.)

The real reason they’re doing this: Trump was impeached twice and wants payback. The Republicans will fall over themselves to impeach Biden even if they have to say that his crime was blinking improperly.

And if they did manage to impeach Biden over whatever they’re making up this time… so what?

45’s first impeachment did nothing, so couldn’t the sane people in the government just ignore a hypothetical biden impeachment and continue business as usual?

The point isn’t to remove Biden, it’s to trivialize the fact that trump was (rightfully) impeached twice. If Biden got impeached for something completely nonsensical, they’re hoping enough of the general public will just regard all impeachments as such.

Unfortunately, they’re probably more right than wrong.

They know they’ll never get Biden removed. Even the craziest Republican in the House realizes that the impeachment would die in the Senate. This is purely being done for three reasons.

First, it’s payback. Trump was impeached twice so they think they are “owed” at least one impeachment. This is especially true, they feel, because Trump wants to see Biden impeached and they must follow Trump or else.

Secondly, it’s an attempt to make impeachment meaningless. If they impeach Biden over nothing, they can claim that impeachment is a purely political process and Trump’s two impeachments mean nothing.

Finally, it’s a way for them to “prove” that Biden is corrupt. After all, he was impeached, so this means that he’s done illegal stuff. Note: This conflicts with the second reason, but they don’t care. They’ll argue that Biden’s impeachment means he’s corrupt, while also arguing that Trump’s impeachment proves that impeachment has no meaning.

Removal isn’t the goal. They’re just looking to score political points. The smarter Republicans realize that this could cause a massive backlash (ala Clinton post-impeachment), but the smarter Republicans aren’t the ones with their hands on the wheel.

This has been the plan from the start, they opened the “investigation” without a vote so per Trump admin precedent the Biden admin has not considered it legitimate.

Then you wait a bit and the moderates get to say “we TRIED every other way but the administration forced our hand!” And they all vote for the official inquiry.

I’d still be surprised if they got the near-unanimity needed (especially if they expell Santos on Thurs), if they get it then I’d bet impeachment inquiries just become something that the House does whenever they are controlled by the party opposed to the President.

So I guess they must have stumbled onto a goldmine of new evidence?

Or is this just a Biden impeachment imperative to avoid the spittle flingin’ fury of the Dear Leader and his trumpholian hordes?
