U.S. automaker Ford has issued a recall involving potentially 41,555 trucks, including certain 2023 Super Duty F250 and F350 vehicles “equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear axle shaft,” the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration said.
The NHTSA said the trucks the left rear axle shaft could have a defect caused in production that has the potential to cause it to break. A break could lead to a loss of drive power or cause the vehicle to roll away, even when it is put in park.
The agency says either of their hypothetical safety issue situations could cause an increase in a crash risk.

No, apparently that’s a standard feature just like how BMWs come from the factory without working turn signals.
If you ever feel like your life or work is pointless, remind yourself someone attaches and tests BMW turn signals for a living.
You’d figure they’d have that 10.5" axle down by now considering its barely changed in decades.

I’ve worked in quality. Manufacturing defects can be caused at any time.
So do I and I realize that, but I’m going to give Ford shit when I can. They have been making basically that axle with little variation and few issues since the late 90’s and not much changed from the 10.25 in the 80’s.
I figured this was a hood height problem. Dangerous.
Maybe stop making them.
Is it really that the truck shouldn’t exist, or that people shouldn’t drive them as an everyday vehicle? I mean they have a purpose, and it’s not getting beer and chips from the grocery store.
I’m good with the disapproval of the people that suck, but I feel like it’s getting directed incorrectly.
Bigger vehicles should require higher license classes that require more driver training, fees, legality, and roadworthiness checks.

I’m referring to full-size trucks and SUVs such as the F250 and F350, which the article is specifically about. Not commercial vehicles.
There really is no use for those vehicles. I am sure someone can come up with a contrived edge case but I don’t care.
