People need to understand that running away from Windows to Linux because all of a sudden they don’t like Windows anymore for (so many reasons…) is not a good idea. The differences between, and how you run each OS, are night and day.

You will bring all your lousy computing habits and lack of skill to Linux and you will find nothing but frustration. Linux will wipe your ass only so much for you and will never allow you to compute with it as you (do) in windows.

Linux ain’t your panacea and the only satisfaction you will get is in re-wiring you.

Sure, ctrl+c will copy in linux, as it does in windows. Linux will (offer) an opportunity to change that, windows will (offer) go fuck yourself. windows is controlled by corporate demands and will shackle your hands and extract every bit of data it can from you whereas linux will allow you to hang yourself with every keystroke. And you will and it will be ugly and you will cry and you will blame anything but yourself.

"linux ate my hard drive’

‘linux wrecked my partition’

‘linux wrecked my…’

No, it didn’t, you did. Own it and go from there.

There are paradigms to understand and your pulling some random concept or demand out of the scheme of it to demand answers does nothing to alleviate your issue because anything underlying, aside from 'ooooh, squirrel" is left unaddressed. That’s bad medicine.

Linux expects you to have a level of understanding about computing, under the gloss and hep-cat glitter of a fancy DE, because it will (let) you do whatever you want.

We are born knowing only how to suck and some people demand to stay that way. Linux is NOT for you, your personality precludes you from using it. Change your expectations and or demands and learn something first. Linux will not force you to learn the terminal, to use it to fix or do a thing. You damned well better, though. :)

Oh, it was supposed to be rage bait. I actually thought it was quite funny.

I recognized myself from a decade ago and this post quite a bit. It uhh didn’t go very well until through years of suffering I figured out the perfect setup for me and how to properly deal with all the little issues.

While I do agree with the general sentiment to rewire your expectation when switching from Windows -> Linux, I do not agree with the following statement:

Linux is NOT for you, your personality precludes you from using it.

Linux is for everyone… Though I do also agree if you’re doing something wrong (and you will…) Don’t cry or reflect your frustration on your OS. If there are 1000 ways to break Windows, there are a million times more ways to break your GNU/Linux OS. But most of the time, you’re a doing something wrong and sometimes an upstream update can Bork your system… (Yeah this happens 🤷‍♂️).

I don’t want anyone to get discouraged because of this post. Bottom line is that it is very easy to make a “live USB” of a Linux distro and play around with it. There is zero risk or commitment in doing so. Another great option is to install it on an old computer you have or can easily get. It may or may not “be for you”, but it is very easy to try out.

You can also install it in a Virtualbox Virtual Machine to tinker with it so you can get comfortable…there’s lots of tutorials and videos out there on how to do it.

Making a thumbdrive to try things out to see what works and doesn’t isn’t hard. Software can be hit or miss depending on if you NEED specific things for work or not. Thanks to Valve’s efforts alongside WINE, gaming is in a lot better place than it was even five years ago.

OP is just trying to ragebait. Instead it seems like he is trying to Masturbate.

One thing about the thumbdrives, a LOT of features did not work for me when running live bootable, and it almost put me off. Then I made the actuall full install and a lot of the stuff that had not worked now did. Just so people understand the live bootables are very much just a demo, and doesn’t say much about compatibility really.

Yep, there are ways to do a full installation onto a thumb drive.

While It’s not exactly complex. It does tend to require more understanding of how file system mounting works than the audience OP is indicating would have.

It is likely time to create a user/id10t friendly app designed to download and fully install any ISO as a live thumb drive.

That will still need some help for odd hardware. But for most it would be a fair option.

My experience with Linux sounds way easier than yours even if I agree with a lot of your points.

I never had to save an OS except when I tried to have two DE installed.

Otherwise it’s been pretty smooth except for minor issues related to my hardware.

lol, my post isn’t ‘ragebait’, quit being tender. My post is targeted at exactly the people that won’t benefit from it because of exactly what I wrote. People carry ridiculous baggage and expectations into what they ‘do’ or want and it doesn’t work out and they blame everything but themselves. If this angers you, you are that person. I am saving you a trip.

Someone wrote that linux is for everyone and it sure could be, but, in reality is is not.
