Today I read that Mr 80 million is complaining because yesterday he received less than great treatment from the defenders of San Marino. Well dear, probably in football like today where physical contact has disappeared you can allow yourself to make fun of us little opponents with ugly and repeated gestures or to simulate at every opportunity hoping for the VAR for a penalty. I would have liked to see you 15 years ago when only real men played football! You were a disappointment Hoejlund, good luck.

Mate, 15 years ago (or just pre-VAR in general) someone would have retaliated when the ref’s focus was elsewhere.

This man made his international debut at the age of 40 for San Marino. The most prolific club he played for was Lecce (10 years ago). All he wants is his 15 minutes of fame and this was probably his last chance. What a legacy he’s leaving behind… Twat.

Ever since I was a kid I have loved following the smallest teams in Europe like San Marino and Liechtenstein, hoping they would get results and loving the fun of seeing a bunch of low-level players, often amateurs, get the chance vs world class players. When San Marino not only scored, but straight up equalised, I literally told my friends that I was watching the game with that “you have no idea how much I’m loving this right now, just wish it didn’t happen against us!” But then we made it 2-1 and it became obvious that something was wrong, first with the Sanmarinese players chasing Højlund immediately after the goal, and then with Kjær, who is fluent in Italian, having a lot of talks with both the Sanmarinese captain and the referee. We now know that that was because their players were openly talking about injuring Højlund, which is just despicable. Leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth that this was the reaction from the San Marino team to nearly missing out on their biggest result ever. I want to love it, even if it was against my country tbh, but the surprisingly disgusting behaviour from several of their players makes it hard, sadly. For the record, yes, it is also childish of Højlund to shush (or whatever he did) vs a minnow that we should be destroying 6-0. But that still doesn’t make any of the career-ending behaviour okay at all. That knee in the back could’ve destroyed Højlund, like with Neymar. And he already has had back problems.

I read it as Di Maria and was pleasantly surprised that he didn’t defend him, however, it turned out it wasn’t Di Maria.

There should be some straight up banishments for that. I remember when Joey Barton came out saying “yeah, I was trying to get as many City players sent off as possible” after his little deal in the City-QPR game in 2012, and getting cracked down on hard for that. UEFA has to take the same approach, though for a 41 year old player on a side that’s a micro nation, that’s probably not gonna mean much.
