I’d probably sit and play Unreal, or maybe Riven if I was feeling more chill. Could easily burn through 12 hours like that. Just need to be able to take a case of Jolt, a few bags of chips, and some Skittles along and I’d be set.

None of these are programming related. I think quite a few people know about the last two, but Dirtbag Diaries probably less so. If you enjoy the outdoors, hiking, climbing, biking, whatever, it’s worth checking out.

I don’t think Phizer did anything to make the vaccine better, just more available. Their size makes it possible to do things at larger scale. Phizer has pretty much given up on doing any R&D and now just buys up smaller innovative companies. They extract out any patents and other IP they want, and move on. I work in pharma, and everyone I know who’s worked for them in the past has a story about how Pfizer came in, bought their facility, then shut the doors within a couple years. Definitely didn’t make the lives of all those workers better, who had to uproot their families and find new jobs elsewhere.

Yeah, not really a programmer. Logo and Basic were pretty much the extent of my learning as a kid back in the early 80’s. Wouldn’t mind getting into python if I had some spare time. Keep coming across stuff where being able to do python scripting would be useful.

Performance management systems have always been rigged. Certainly at the last company that both my wife and I worked for. She had to manage a small staff, and come review time, she rated one deserving employee with a 4 out of 5 overall. HR called her in and said, “You can’t give anyone a four, we don’t do that here.” They changed the scores and the employee got a 3 like everyone else. Complete bullshit.

West Wing. When it came out years ago, (24 actually…) I saw a couple episodes and it didn’t interest me. But about 8 years ago I ended up watching every episode on Netflix and loved it. But wow, if I had to slog through to season 4 of a show to enjoy it, I would never get there.

Looks like she’s already wearing one from the photo they used. Very brave and admirable for her to step up and continue forward.

Devil in the White City is also a great book, the first book of his that I’ve read. Story of America’s first recognized serial killer, occuring in Chicago during the World’s Fair. Worth checking out.
