Doonsbury by Garry Trudeau for August 26, 1982
First panel: Two military officers sitting at a desk are approached by a sergeant.
OFFICER: What is it now, sergeant?
SERGEANT: We just got the final count on the Terrorist Evacuees, sir.
Second panel:
OFFICER: Does this include the Terrorist Wounded from the Terrorist Hospitals?
SERGEANT: Yes, sir. Along with the Terrorist Doctors and Terrorist Nurses
Third Panel: the other officer, seemingly confused, leans forward. The officer and sergeant turn to look at him.
OTHER OFFICER: Wait a minute. What is all this “Terrorist” business? Wasn’t Begin once a “Terrorist”, too?
OFFICER: Mr. Begin was not a Terrorist, he was a Freedom Fighter
Final panel: The other officer leans back and the officer turns back to the sergeant.
OTHER OFFICER: Oh.
OFFICER: How many Terrorist Relatives?
SERGEANT: 3,000 Terrorist Wives and 7,000 Baby Terrorists
I long for the day that this may no longer be relevant.
Fecking 1982, and it’s STILL relevant. Let’s not be deterred, and work together towards this cartoon’s dying relevance.
