Don’t tell me you haven’t figured out how to block communities to curate your feed…

Though seriously, there is no algorithm here, you are responsible to yourself for what you continue to be exposed to.

There certainly is an algorithm, but just like on Reddit, if you don’t like it, either don’t subscribe to it or use a client that can filter posts.

The real differences are that you can look through the source code to see exactly what the algorithm does, and that each instances’ administrator could (theoretically) tweak it to his own liking but is required to disclose those changes because Lemmy is licensed with AGPL 3.0.

The upshot is that there’s much less moral hazard/risk of admins quietly subverting it for their own political or economic benefit.

No shit. I browse the politics board to get the latest memes and recipes for bread. Though sadly, not both of those combined

Reality has a well-known liberal bias. If you think anywhere else – whether online or off – other than alt-right “safe spaces” is going to be any more sympathetic to your delusions than famously enlightened-centrist r/politics was, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Well, I mean…conservatism is horseshit. Yeah, I’m gonna be that blunt about it. It benefits only certain social classes and demographics in society, which is what makes it horseshit in a “democracy” that’s supposed to leave nobody behind.
