      Or just stop using custom made algorithms tailored to you in particular. In this front I think lemmy succeeds by not implementing an algorithm and letting you decide on the content you want to see

        That’s the same reason why reddit used to be good. It was honest. You always understood how the posts were filtered and sorted, and there was no trickery in it.

        Technically lemmy has sorting algorithms you can choose from. I don’t know if they are hard coded or you could implement your own. Same with mastodon, is there a way to sort other than “new” on mastodon?

      Because Lemmy and Mastodon don’t have million dollar advertising budgets or use any of the unethical “growth hacking” techniques that Facebook and Twitter used in their early days.

    Hopefully with fediverse we will be able to control ourselves if its bad for mental health or not. With corporations we have to beg.
