Trump has been charged by the Department of Justice with the following four counts:
-
A conspiracy to defraud the United States “by using dishonesty, fraud and deceit to obstruct the nation’s process of collecting, counting, and certifying the results of the presidential election,” according to the special counsel’s office.
-
A conspiracy to impede the Jan. 6 congressional proceeding at which the collected results of the presidential election are counted and certified.
-
A conspiracy against the right to vote and to have that vote counted.
-
Obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct and impede, the certification of the electoral vote.
In criminally charging former president Donald Trump for his efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss, federal prosecutors allege that Trump enlisted six co-conspirators to “assist him in his criminal efforts to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election and retain power.”

Is there a chance he would serve any jail time at all, from any of these cases?
Just speculation here but I’d say at the very most it’ll be house arrest. People like this don’t go to jail, they just don’t. Not even “club fed” as they call it.
Yes, there is a chance. These are crimes with associated sentences expected should he, and his co-conspirators, be convicted. There are of course, larger political implications that may see special treatment for this man that thinks he’s above the law AND who had spent his entire life collecting blackmail on others in an attempt to keep himself out of jail (see David pecker and enquirer relationship).
Ultimately, he’s long overdue for the consequences of his actions. America says it doesn’t have monarchy, this is the chance to prove that with action. trump’s crimes are in broad daylight and they are literally televised. There’s no denying he’s guilty of young an honest person examining the objective facts. The question will be of he’s done enough to poison the well yet to find an unwarranted way out of this.
Rule of law is completely dead in this shithole country if he doesn’t get, at minimum, thrown in prison.
Unfortunately, the rich and powerful have never been held to the same standards as the rest of the populace. Not specific to this shithole country, but it’s nothing new. Don’t get hung up on the “rule of law” being dead; it’s always been applied differently to different groups.
Yeah but Trump is kinda trash money not big money
I doubt he even has any PJs.
Idi Amin never went to prison for any of the stuff he’d done, things like that just don’t happen to world leaders, former world leaders, or billionaires (apart from maybe Saddam Hussein). It’ll most likely be house arrest, though I’d love to be proven wrong and he gets to wear a jumpsuit as orange as his tan.
I’m not going to hold my breath hoping for prison… I won’t hold my breath for conviction either. All it takes is 1 MAGA crazy sneaking into a jury to let him off.
If he is convicted I’m sure he will get some form of home detention. It will turn into a form of convicted in writing only.
I’m a “glass is empty” type person.
If he is convicted, he will spend the rest of his life in jail unless a Republican is elected President in 2024 or 2028.
The moment there’s a Republican president, he’ll be pardoned. Especially if that Republican president campaigns on not doing that, they’ll totally do it once in office.
Yeah. Not a certainty, even with everything, but sure – an increasingly solid chance of it.
Insofar as any rich person would have a chance, yes. Some of these charges carry theoretical penalties up to and including execution.
This is absolutely not true… The death penalty is not on the table for any of the charges against Trump. The only charges in the US that carry the possibility of the death penalty are: murder, treason, genocide, or kidnapping of certain politicians. He has NOT be charged with anything near that.
tbf sedition is “near treason” imo but yes you are correct, I was mistaken
What? He hasn’t been charged with sedition either.
