I guess most people know about the movie web app site, which pulls videos from various sources.

Recently they added a request to download an extension to your browser, for optimal perfomance and better quality.

It is featured on the firefox android extensions site from Mozilla, it has a github page. What I read online is that it seems the extension wants access to everything you do in your browser, which seems kind of sketchy.

What do people here think about it? Anyone installed it and can say more?

Edit: thanks for all the comments, looks like less people knew about this than I thought.

It’s more that you can’t link directly to sites that host pirated content or adjacent files, like subtitles, and mentioning how to pirate series directly is frowned upon since it’s indexed by search engines and copyright holders can find it.

A GitHub page is generally fair game, such as the page for Mihon (Tachiyomi fork) being posted after Tachiyomi ceased development. It should also be noted that web scrapers (which is what this extension seems to be) don’t actually host any content so they are relatively insulated from being targeted by DMCA notices - this means you should be able to talk about them freely.
