Looking for preferably FOSS programs to torrent, categorize, and play content.

I used Plex on a FreeNas server before and honestly hated the overall design. In the end, we ended up nuking several hard-drives by mistake.

We’re starting over, and pretty new to the current scene. We’re shooting for a Raid1 setup, and preferably an end GUI that has the ability to add movies/shows to a grab-list (free/paid options would be valid).

We have a seedbox 5$/month, several private trackers, and the following hardware:

Currently have 2 8TBs, several old computers, 6+ RX 580’s from an old rig, 2-3 CPUs, and maybe an average of 8gb on each of 4 motherboards.

What is the coolest setup possible ;)?

    Jellyfin > Plex

There are various plugins you can get to automatically sort all the metadata and stuff, but I don’t bother with those.

+1 for Jellyfin. It’s FOSS, doesn’t pollute your media collection with terrible streaming offerings, and doesn’t paywall hardware acceleration. Much better option than Plex these days imo.

+1 for jellyfin. Also consider full arr stack (sonarr, radarr, prowlarr, etc) for best experience. Servarr ftw

That’s another +1 from me, have been an avid Jellyfin + *arr stack user for years and it’s never let me down. If anything, the issue now is it’s so easy to tell it to download stuff I have to be careful not to get overwhelmed sometimes lol.

+1 also for Jellyfin + *arr stack. During years I stick to Kodi and a lot of manual work, but switched to Jellyfin around 4 years ago. Really satisfied with the change, as I can even consume my media on the go.

In addition to the above suggestions for the arr stacks. There is also Bazarr for subtitles, Jellyseer for a neat requests/discover UI. Trash’s guides and servarr tutorials helped me a lot. I run it all through docker compose.

I stream via debrid now directly on Kodi, works really well and nice and lightweight. Nice not to be storing TBs of video anymore.
