You can regularly sync your memories with your copies (either one way or both ways)
It would probably start out good but go out of control quickly… https://youtu.be/2E8K3rxllh8?si=gbjaKbOi5RhUcWv9 Schaffer the Darklord anyone?

Going dark with it: How much are organs worth on the black market?
Keeping it light: like 4 or 5 maybe, as long as there is no degradation in capabilities I think I could feasibly let 1 do my job, then the rest and myself could pursue other intellectual endeavors. I would also always have a full D&D group and be able to play the multiplayer games I have always wanted to that never had the interest of my friends.
If you would be willing to sell the organs of your clones, it stands to reason that your clones would be willing to sell yours. I think you would likely be harvested first and then they would devolve into a game of organ harvesting Highlander as they all turned on each other.
DnD issue: memory sync.
You’re just yourself playing yourself, and all copies know what all copies are thinking.
That’s not a malfunction, it’s a feature.
I always play wildly different characters in my campaigns and like to mix things up. The other players knowing what I am thinking just means that I don’t have to communicate my hair brained schemes.
So what happens with my copy once I’m done with it?
Does it just continue to exist?
Do I need to kill it before it figures out that there can be only one, and kill me first?
Reminds me of the episode from Rick and Morty
Double the current world population.
Destruction for the sake of destruction? I’ve seen a few anime’s like this, and they don’t end well
Are you saying I don’t take care of my things!!?
I think so, yes
A billion copies to lead a communist revolution. Any more than that would probably be unsustainable globally in the short term while the existing capitalist systems are being dismantled and replaced.
Or a 3 or 4 clone friends to help out with daily life.
Both are cool. The latter is probably easier and what my copies could actually manage.
I mean, with that ability you are basically a hivemind. And if playing Stellaris has taught me anything, it is that more pops are always good.
ಠ‿ಠ
You know that episode of Futurama, where Bender made near infinite copies of himself and nearly the destroyed the world?
Yeah that, but maybe a little slowly since I like to procrastinate.
Everyone keeps tell me to go fuck myself. Inonly need the one copy to live out that wish.
You really need to work on your creativity - three, maybe four, copies would be much more fun.
None
So you already get enough sleep, have all your hobby projects finished, and are fulfilled in your romantic life?
Its not like that if i suddenly made a clone i’ll be getting disected in the government lab.
One clone could go to work doing a gruelling backbreaking soul crushing job, and the other could sleep, for example.
Yeah, but neither Clone would want to go to the job. Both would want to sleep.
I’m not so sure about that mate. When was the last time you had two years off of working? If you got that opportunity, you might be surprised how much energy you have for doing stuff when you’re not forced to kill yourself working for someone else every day just to scrape by.
Compromise - you could take turns alternatively having days working and sleeping with your clone.
I wouldn’t do that due to my morals and ethics.
You’re against taking turns abusing what is essentially yourself?
Yes i wouldn’t abuse me or anyone for that matter.
You’ve never… pushed yourself?
Me after splitting myself into any number of copies:
Two would be ideal.
Three would have greater benefits, greater complexity and problems.
Assume you could sync your memories after each day. What would you do with them?
One would go to work, the other would be a house-husband.
I love my work, just don’t have enough time to stay home, keep the place clean and tidy, read my books, visit places and chill!
As many as my finances can comfortably support
Assume a clone is free. You could take turns with a clone sleeping in your bed, or the couch, or the floor, or at your partner’s, or crashing with a friend.
The clone doesn’t have to eat?
yes it does, it’s essentially you
Food expenses 💸
Ah. Right, good point. Still, a bag of rice a day?
You would give yourself a bag of rice a day? I mean, I hate myself and I’d still feed it well 😳
In that case then I’d start with one. Have them go to my job. And see how well they do at the job. Then get another one and have them do another job at a different site. Once I’m pulling in $200,000/year. I’d start traveling and see the world.
Since they are free. Then they don’t need food or water. Just need the heat for the house. Also need the electricity. As for clothing. Other then work clothes they can wear tshirts and jeans.
When I said “free” I meant you don’t pay to have one, but you still need to feed and house them, as you would yourself.
Having two for work and one (yourself) for travel seems like a good balance though.
Being able to clone myself and sync with my clones is something I’ve thought about since I was a kid.
I don’t think increasing the number of clones would ever allow me to satisfy all my wishes. The number of things I want to do increases with the number of experiences I have in a non-linear way. If I want to be satisfied I need to be willing to accept all of my wishes will never be fulfilled.
To answer your question specifically: 0 clones
Nice answer!
You see an exponential curve of interest, instead of an S-shaped curve? Your interests would likely develop rapidly at first yes, but even that will get boring with time and you might plateau at a small community of yourself with dwindling interests, slowly creeping back into single digits, and then finally yourself.
It wouldn’t all be for nothing though, you would still have all the fruits and experiences of their/your labour.
The curve could definitely be S shaped, but it’s hard to say.
I think that I would be really unhappy/bored in a world where I got to experience “everything” I wanted to do. In fact, just the idea of not having to make any trade offs/compromises is incredibly paralyzing to think about right now lol
If the clones don’t allow me to live forever, eventually dying would be the most interesting thing for me to do because it would be the only “new” thing left to experience in my lifetime.
Again, great answer! I leave you with this great book:
Holy crap two fun back and forths leads to a book recommendation, today has been a great day. Thank you!
Just the one, we’d both sit around doing nothing. Get him to give me a hand job, it’s not gay if it’s you right?
With two of me I think I could make for a normal person.
Tell me about it
