Sometimes I like to go look at animal adoption sites, I like finding the animal with the silliest name and photo. Today I thought I’d look at the Lost Dogs Home which is not my usual place to look, and WTF is with their adoption fees! Maybe I’m being unreasonable but up to $1.5k to adopt a dog… There were 400+ listed in VIC alone, and I can kind of understand why! For that much you could go get a brand new puppy sans all the issues that come with adopting a potentially mistreated dog.

I get it’s probably to deter people from making rash decisions, also folks who can afford to drop that much can also probably afford to care for the dog, and making sure that the dog goes to a good home, but it just seems insane to me.

Not sure where you are looking, most of the dogs I could see were $85. The most expensive was $800 for a young puppy.

Holy shit I listed the wrong site, my bad, it’s Pet Rescue not Lost Dogs Home that was the one I looked at after.

Ted Cat was $400 on pet rescue. Pedigree but loads of problems. Bill was $160 at rspca, same pedigree and he’s been an awesome boy.

Those prices include all the medical care .

Someone one the cptsd meme sub said this

It’s like “which layer of trauma are you talking about?” and then my whole life story comes apart like an onion

And I have never related to a sentence so hard

Uhhhh there’s an uber eats looking bag at my door for some dude called david, nobody called david lives here (and as far as I can tell, never has). No receipt on the outside of the bag and it’s stapled and taped shut. Does this count as mail? Am I going to jail if I open it? I don’t even know how long it’s been there, I didn’t hear anybody come up the stairs

Edit: I decided to open it to see if there was a receipt or a restaurant name or something, it’s literally a white paper bag that says “KEBAB” in a brown paper bag. No shop name, doesn’t even say if it’s uber eats or door dash or whatever.

Yeah, I have no clue how long it’s been put there. Could’ve been up to 3 hours. Though it was wrapped in foil so I’m sure I’d be fine if I ate it

Oo never been visited by the kebab fairy before! Although I’m not sure how much I trust a fairy to make a good kebab. It’s a well known fact that the best kebabs come from a bloke covered head to toe in hair with a thick Lebanese accent who calls you friend at least twice per sentence and says he’s doing you a good deal. of course, for this to be true he also needs to be working out of a very small food truck parked in front of the dodgiest servo in the dodgiest part of town

It’s also 2am, you are far from sober, and utterly convinced that ordering in a made up accent gets you a bigger kebab. Uni was fun.

Just picked up a few yummy dinners from the South Melbourne market. Going to slow cook some bbq ribs this afternoon!

I should make the effort to come down here more often.

The grandparents are visiting and helping to mind the kids for the next two days. These little buggers are getting a bit too much to handle on their own

Slept in, yet somehow feel like I barely slept.

Adulthood is bullshit I used to sleep 6 hours a night and wake up feeling refreshed

I remember I used to go to bed after being extremely drunk/high and get up to go to work the next day with no issue.

Those days are loooong gone now.

I’ve just put a half rack of USA bbq pork ribs in the oven. In 2 hours it’s going to be fall-off-the-bone succulent rib time!

It’s my first time! I bought them pre-marinaded from the market so all I’ve done is whack them on some baking paper in a baking pan, covered it with foil and put it in the oven @ 145 degrees for 2 hours. Almost an hour in and my apartment is starting to smell pretty nice.

May I recommend bourbon & cola next time? It’s delicious and proves the point about highway patrol cleaning road accidents with coke.

I have a meeting this arvo for one of those initiatives that is really busywork to make the higher-ups look good. Will be actively working on not rolling my eyes.

      Good luck with your interview!

Thanks friend!! I think it went okay, but some of the questions seemed like they were tailored to someone else. I may have been the 3rd or 4th candidate to make up numbers as they had a preferred one already. Still a good experience thought.

I’ll happily roll my eyes here on your behalf. I’m involved in a fair few of such initiatives myself, and cringe is an understatement.

Power was out for 7 days - ausnet can’t even get their website working to put in a claim. Some people still have their power out, running a generator costs a fortune (despite having it off overnight)

I went for a walk at lunch. It’s heating up out there. I’ve got in early and pulled a WFH for tomorrow - the city doesn’t need one more sweaty grumpy person on public transport in high-thirties heat.
