In the interests of transparency around how this instance is intended to be run, and so that prospective users can make an informed decision before joining, this post will serve as a living document briefly outlining policies and information about Leminal Space.
Geographic location
The server resides in a data centre on the US east coast. This was chosen because it is intended for this instance be a general, international one, and the fact that most countries have a relatively fast and fat pipe connecting them to the US made this a practical choice. That said, cached content will be served to you via the nearest global Cloudflare server.
Defederation policy
We will actively and pre-emptively defederate from predominantly fascist, far-right and alt-right (or troll) instances.
To reduce the likelihood of legal issues, we do not federate with porn/NFSW instances and suggest you use an alt-account if you wish to interact with those.
We do not and will not federate with Threads or any other Meta entity.
Either leave a comment below or post a thread to /c/leminalspacemeta if there is an instance you believe should be considered for defederation in line with the above policy.
We will remain federated with all leftist instances (yes, even the sh*tposting ones).
Word filter policy
We do not implement any word filters.
Policies on point for me, thanks. Any idea why eslemmy.es (general spanish instance) is not loading content from here? Feeds appear empty for me
Try it now. I have tweaked a backend setting and they are loading for me.
Make sure you have Spanish selected as one of the languages in your settings (hold ctrl to select multiple) or all posts in that language will be hidden.
It was the language selection setting, I didn’t knew that even existed. Thanks pal, I can read everything now. I’m still learning some fediverse quirks, but loving the fresh air as a reddit refugee. I’m almost glad it went south
Are we defederated from exploding-heads.com?
I feel like they are far-right and a lot of their communities violate this instances rules in general.
We aren’t federated with them. You can see the current block list at the bottom of the Instances page (link in the footer).
Ah my bad I’m using Jerboa so it’s a bit harder to find. I know there’s external sites as well that map out which instances are federated with each other but just wanted to check
hello! ☺️ I saw this cool instance and made an account. I hope that’s alright. nice to meet you. love a chill place!
Hi there! :) Glad to have found this cool instance.
What is the policy on federating with Meta?
Welcome!
There’s no policy around Meta services at the moment, but this will be have to be revisited if and when they implement federation. My gut feeling is that it won’t be worth the hassle.
Thank you for the wekcome! :) Not sure if I understood that last sentence clearly.
Some Fediverse instances are already blocking it. I’m not a fan of those tentacles scraping our data, so that’s why I ask. I appreciate the transparency introduced in this thread and welcome the discussion around this topic (which I do find increasingly important).
Sorry, I meant that I don’t think it will be worth the hassle to remain federated with Threads etc. if they implement federation, but no, we haven’t preemptively defederated at this stage. I’m leaning towards doing so but will take on feedback from other users first.
Understood, thanks! :)
