Deep Rock Galactic is a remarkably similar concept, and has a lot less player hostility.

Part of that I think is the variable difficulty you can opt in to; higher difficulties attract the “meta” players and lower difficulties attract casual players. Neither option denies you access to the game’s content - just higher rewards for harder missions.

Another aspect is probably because there are far less “meta” strategies. If players feel like they need to be hostile to anyone diverging from the handful of optimal setups, then you have a balance problem - not a toxicity problem.

It looks like you’re not especially familiar with HD2. Helldivers 2 has NINE difficulty levels, which you once again have to opt into. There is a degree of reward limitation, in that you have to be up at difficulty 7 or higher to get all possible reward types, but the meta-or-kick problem exists well beyond just the highest difficulty.
