When I made my account I joined the main instance but if I had to choose now I’d probably prefer tchncs.de because they offer Telegram, WhatsApp & Signal Bridges for free (but I don’t really know much about other instances tbh)

Tbh, since I didn’t join myself I did not study their privacy policy but it seems I should do.

        (After reading)

You mean the Captcha or the data they collect and which they claim will be deleted after 7 days? (And 1 year for messages)

This server is storing your IP adress and the last time you have been seen for seven days.

Messages live one year on this server and will then be deleted.

          yea I mean these

I’m kinda conflicted with the second part since I sometimes love to go through old messages. On the other hand, from a privacy view it would be nice, if they weren’t stored that long. Please correct me if I am wrong or misunderstanding something but the owners cannot read the messages as long as they’ve been sent encrypted (except if they had the decryption key).

Idk if storing my last time of activity is that big of a thing but it would be cooler if they didn’t store it.

I share your point on the IP being stored, this needn’t be.

Understandable, you’ll find your instance and if not, there’s always the possibility of self hosting ^^

After all, being able to choose your instance & client to your liking is what makes matrix (and decentralisation as a whole) such a cool thing :3
