I did not end up making the korma, because just the stew turned out to be So Much Food.

Four meals worth in the freezer. Three meals worth in the fridge. Plus dinner tonight, and the realisation that I’m out of plastic tubs with lids.

So I can fish the skin out or it comes off easily when cooked?

because if that is true I am never peeling another pumpkin again.

What I do is cut it into crescents or chunks, put it in a baking dish, add a sprinkle of cumin, chilli flakes, pepper and salt, a slosh of olive oil and roast it until soft. When it’s on your plate and you’ve had enough of eating skin you can just cut it off with your knife because it becomes very soft when cooked.

Yes. Some kinds of pumpkin will leave a greenish rim after the skin comes off. This is in no way harmful, but can spoil the colour of pumpkin soup. I never peel anything I don’t have to so have been not peeling pumpkin for many years. Actually, the same goes for potatoes. Cook with skin on then slip the hard part of the skin off with a flat bladed knife or your fingers. Usually comes off very easily. As most of the nutrition other than fibre and starch is just under the skin, peeling is wasteful. I recommend rubber gloves as skin comes off most easily when hot and damp from the pot. Also beetroot is tastier cooked with the skin on, but gloves are compulsory when removing skin after cooking. Unless you want to star in a horror film.

Yeah I would like something light and funny but my left eyeball absolutely hurts despite having a nap and drinking plenty and not doing much. Thank goodness I have a fair bit of premade food to eat. Day feels totally wasted.

Possible you have a cyst on your eyelid?

Getting some good sleep can really help it go away.

Oh yeah, having pre-made stuff certainly helps when you’re feeling down and aren’t up to cooking for sure.

I’m still debating if I should buy the throw one for couch sitting this week.

Umming and ahhhing right now about it.

I’m only going to get up to reheat my packs or to make dinner later.

        Washing done as well!

        High five! 🙌

The best and worst part about electric blankets is you don’t have to do anything to make them stay warm. Great because I don’t want to be anywhere except warmth when it’s 10 outside and 12 inside, but bad because it makes it impossible to get out of bed!

Went to the footy today with my daughter. On the way out had to stop at the gent’s. some young lads were kind of trying to chat her up whilst I was absent, nothing rude or lewd.

The looks on their faces when she said ‘Hey dad’ and I stood there towering over them.

Kind of feel bad for their egos, but watching them scurry away was pretty comical.

Oh man, I just realised some of my rants about scent and chemicals on here come off as a bit cooked.

For people who aren’t familiar - I have an elderly asthmatic cat who used to require emergency vet trips and use inhalers before I eliminated nearly all scent and aerosols from the house, have extremely sensitive skin mild asthma and migraines myself, and used to be really mindful about chemicals because I was caring for a bird. (Birds can die if you cook in a non-stick pan around them.)

Using simpler and fewer products is also cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

I promise I vaccinate and don’t have an issue with 5G.

Haha omg melba, I never had the assumption that you’re a cooker! Don’t stress it!

I took your advice about vinegar for carpet moths and it’s worked a treat! No more grubs have come out of the carpet. Apparently the acidity damages the grubs and eggs, so I hope I’ve broken the cycle. But I’m super thankful because I was stressed about that bug spray chemical that cats can’t metabolise. You are a legend! 💜

No problem! Vacuuming super regularly and hot washing/drying all the cloth in the house is what gets them too. (I’ve done some more today)

If you’re still struggling for a cat safe insecticide there’s the Frontline spray (out of stock at Petcircle but also a similar cheaper price at Budget Pet Products). Or there’s the Sundew flea control spray which I don’t use because scent and aerosol, and which doesn’t seem to be in pet shops anymore.

    Online is being legislated again

Oh wow these new laws are something else… pr0n is gated behind age verification in Texas and under-18s are now barred from having social media accounts without parental permission in Utah. I’m still trying to work out what the latest with KOSA is

It seems like something that might not affect all of us, but the thing is that many sites are hosted in America and subject to US law. And the material being gunned for also includes anything to do with LGBTIA+, sexual health information, or seeking terminations.

So there’s the possibility that even if you’re not a citizen you may be asked to provide ID to use American social media or general websites. Or the owners may try to scrub the site of that information/certain users.

I was aware of this stuff being fought but now it’s slowly starting to go into effect.

Hmm. Potential problem. I dropped my bowl of ice cream on the floor and told it it was an arsehole. My computer wasn’t a fan of that and turned off. Then it got stuck on a black screen and I had to switch it off at the PSU to make it stop. Then it booted up perfectly normally like nothing ever happened which I don’t know is meant to be better or worse than a BSOD.

I dug through the event logs and the 2 errors I noticed were both related to graphics card issues. I really hope it’s not a graphics issue (at least one I can’t fix) because I do not have new GPU money, and my CPU doesn’t have integrated graphics. But like most errors in windows, it can either be a direct or refered error. Apparently although the error comes from the GPU, it can be caused by anything stretching from a minor driver glitch to memory (RAM) problems.

It’s never done it before and hasn’t done it since, but I suspect it’s probably because of the damage the fan sustained the other day. As far as I can tell, the wifi card only damaged the fan, so my suspicion is perhaps the fans not doing a very good job anymore so it overheated and shut down. But because windows doesn’t believe in descriptive errors I can’t really confirm or rule out anything

^ leaked footage of me trying to get any useful info out of windows

(That was meant to be a gif but uploading gifs to Aussie zone turns them into webMs for some reason so I just embedded the MP4. You’ll probably need to click on it to animate)

Not my field of expertise but can you replace just the fan? Might be cheaper than the graphics if you suspect damage and subsequent overheating. Then if issues persist it’s possibly something else

Not my area of expertise either, it looks like it is possible. Voids the warranty, apparently, and I’ll need to redo the thermal paste at the same time. I’ve redone my CPU thermal paste before and although I hate it and probably don’t do it very well, it still worked afterwards. Although I’m not sure if GPU fans are soldered or not. If they are that’d way beyond my level of technical skill and I’d have to take it to a shop

A GPU upgrade has been on the cards for a while now, but stalled because the people at centrecom said I wouldn’t notice any performance increase with an upgraded GPU as it’d still be bottlenecked by my mobo and to a lesser extent my CPU. I might look at upgrading GPU anyway and worry about bottlenecks later
