Not yet. But if/when they find you interesting they already have all the info they need.

Some people searched “boobs” on Google.

Some people watched Heartstopper on Netflix.

Some people searched for methods of aborting a baby by yourself.

Some people downloaded a Bible application.

        Some people follow trans TikTokers.

Some people watched and liked YouTube videos that questioned the existence of a god.

        Some men watched gay porn.

Some people regularly messaged a drug dealer.

Every datum is permanent, but every law isn’t.

So you don’t understand how mass surveillance works? “Big brother” isn’t “watching” you in real time, they’re collecting and storing all the data they can en masse and having AI look at it for them. I personally object to the warrantless collection and storage of everyone’s data.

And then what? Why do I care?

If there is a data breach, all of the information gathered can easily be used for mass identity theft. (Or other thefts, i.e. credit card theft)

AI wrongly flags you as suspicious and someone has to take a manual look at all your data.

Why would you want anyone from the government doing any sort of investigation on you? Even if you have nothing to hide it’s a breach of privacy and you put a lot of trust in the government.

They aren’t watching, but they are recording so they can watch later at their leisure and skip the commercials.

How does big brother know about my porn preferences if big brother isn’t watching me masturbate? Checkmate.

This misrepresents how mass surveillance works.

It’s high-throughput big-data processing. It’s not a lad sitting in a room watching you specifically.

Big Brother was watching you, but isn’t watching anymore.

Because he doesn’t even want to know, he wants to forget. He knows if he goes back to look now he’s not going to like it, and he can’t do anything about it.

That’s half true, no one cares about you in particular but they still collect everything to have a database of all thing that could possibly care about in the future, Snowden did a great job revealing that and while it wasn’t state driven you can take a look at the Cainbridge Analytica story if you want to know what’s possible even if no one ever cares about you specifically, keep in mind that that’s even possible with very outdated technology by todays standards!

kinda true in that no one cares about you specifically (as in no govt agencies or corporations, yer mum loves ya), at least until you do something to draw focus to yourself

however there’s multiple layers of tracking, from local to state to federal (and various agencies at each level) as well as every single corporation that you interact with or buys your data. all of these actors are primarily interested in your data in aggregate (unless and until you give them a reason to focus on you specifically) so that they can manipulate whatever demographic/class you belong to into doing whatever action serves them.

It can be difficult at first to conceptualize how each of us exists as a single part of various larger systems/entities, but that realization is instrumental in understanding how things work in today’s globalized and technological world.
