I think it’s a tiktok meme. Someone somewhere brought up the question of “say you’re stranded in the woods. Would you rather encounter a random man or a bear?” Most men say the man, obviously. Most women have to think about it. A lot of men are offended by the idea that a woman might be roughly as afraid of random men as she is random bears, and a lot of those guys are in women’s DMs making real good cases for the bear.

I think you need to change the question a little bit to make it equivalent for the guys. Instead of just a random man, imagine it’s a random man who’s likely to be at least 10% larger than you, has been taking testosterone supplements, and wants to have sex with you. The bear seems a little bit more reasonable at that point.

@starman2112 @optissima i literally did not have to think about it for an instant. I did not even have to use my brain. you know what did have to spend a lot of time thinking about? putting all of the items on the the never-ending list of reasons why into words. and it’s wayyyyyyyyy longer than this bro

“say you’re stranded in the woods. Would you rather encounter a random black man or a bear?”

            This produces radically different results

I mean, among racists yeah. This isn’t really analogous to race, though. Rape culture is a thing. Women have legitimate reason to be wary around men in a way that white people do not have legitimate reason to be wary around black people.

No woman on camera would claim that she is more afraid of a black man than a bear

She would claim that a (racially ambiguous) man is more dangerous than a bear. Making that man black prevents her from articulating her fear

A meme that’s been going around the last week or two. Not sure precisely what it was, but something along the lines of asking a woman whether she’d rather be locked in a room with a bear or a guy, and she chooses the bear.

A better question would be if she would rather be locked in a room with a bear or a black man

Weird how no one prefers the bear in that scenario. Because sex-based prejudice is fine, but race-based prejudice is wrong

Maybe instead of trying really hard to act like you’re a victim of prejudice, you should take some time to think about why women largely choose the bear.

I’ve seen would you rather be alone in the woods with a bear or a random man somewhere in there.
