Sometimes it’s just not understanding what they’re translating, sometimes it’s just outright misinformation. But just because they found an earlier form of a human virus in neanderthals doesn’t mean it was a human virus. Not to mention, viruses aren’t just spontaneously created, they evolve from existing viruses. You could trace any human virus back long before humans or other hominds. Which brings up another point. It should be “oldest known homind virus”. Not all hominds are/were humans. It’s a rectangle/square thing.
