Extreme Mayos (both explicitly right wing and “good” libs) usually don’t know how to read my background by looks alone so they often ask “what are you” so they can then form an opinion based on what I tell them. I’ve had to deal with this throughout school and many times at work in different fields, in a purportedly “progressive” state 🙂
