Had the weirdest ‘sleep’ these last two nights. It’s been a struggle to get to sleep and when I do I feel like I have been awake the entire time, like my mind is still going and only my eyes are closed.

Yet I am not tired at all so I must be actually sleeping but it is a really weird feeling.

So I reported a profile on Facebook because it was using my name and my profile picture (and different personal details ripped from someone with my name but a higher public profile). I just got an email to say it’s been reviewed and doesn’t go against their guidelines.

The profile picture is literally me. From my old website. And it’s my name. But that’s not an issue?! WTAF?! Can I do anything about this?

Big Talk with Mum went well. She was worried about some of the same things I was and was relieved I’ve found an option that will work better. Now I just need to make sure there are no major objections from my sister (which I am not anticipating) and we can start actually putting future plans in to place.

It will be a relief getting this all sorted. Having older parents is a double worry, both the direct worry about health problems etc. and also the worry that you don’t have the power/authority to actually do anything to help prevent problems, but will be suddenly put into the position of trying to sort everything out in the middle of a crisis if something goes wrong.

I want a cat so bad. They’re like portable bed heaters. They’d probably love my electric blanket, too…

    你好吗? 今天早上太冷了啊!

wrote that bad boy all by myself(in pinyin anyway). I’m trying to focus on thinking phrases. Things I can think in chinese instead of english to better commit them to memory. So mostly just complaining about the weather.

First ever dish completely performed by the almost restored kukri:

So amazed by whoever(s) made that knife (I am working on it buddy trust me). Wasn’t great on fresh small chilli but the already dead calamari and lemon never stood a chance.

Saw a BYD as an insurance replacement vehicle just now. Smart move.

Everytime I go on Reddit I feel myself getting shittier and shittier. I know that not following current events is sticking ones head in tyevsand, but it has such an impact.

I think Reddit is better/less rabid than than aussie tv …lol

And following what current events? What is popular at the moment, what is being pushed for political reasons, what has had good press releases?

Because there is so much happening in the world and most never hits the newspapers on a regular basis.

Keeping up with current events is more about keeping up with the zeitgeist than anything.

Little of it ever impacts our own lives.

At my old age I just try to see trends and important local news, some foreign news too. 99% I ignore.

I find myself much more interested by international news.

Aussie news is basically all about housing/interest rates with the odd splash of violent crime.

Like what is Australia’s future exactly? Who do we want to be? What’s our goal? I feel like these questions are rarely answered, to say nothing of actual practical plans to get there.

Colonies don’t have goals and who we are are colonial subjects.

The point of colonies is not nation building but extracting wealth.

Australia’s goal is that everyone can own a house which constantly increases in value. There are no practical plans talked about because it is not actually possible, the goal of constantly rising value conflicts with the goal of being available to everyone. Which is why talk about it around and around in circles.

@wscholermann @Seagoon_ And when politics is covered by most of the media, it’s basically presented as a clash of personalities and a footy game.

This Labor MP says this. This Coalition MP says that. Minister refuses to confirm. Party room sources say. This shadow minister made a gaffe. The opposition leader made comments attacking this. The prime minister responded by saying that.

And according to the latest opinion polls…

It’s really irrelevant to the everyday lives of most people!

Meanwhile, the thing that really matters from politics is the laws we live under. How government departments go about their job and deliver things like schools and hospitals. Which new train lines do or don’t get built. What the government funds, and who pays how much tax for it.

The focus should be on what issues people in the community are facing.

What kind of society do we have right now? What kind of country, state, and city do we want to live in?

What are the laws and policies right now?

What’s their impact on those issues? Are they helping or harming?

And how could they be different?

Engagement is driven by rage. Engagement is also money. Hence, making readers angry enough to comment = profit.

It’s shit. Peeking your head out to check current events is alright, but hopping on the Enragement Engagement Train is a one way ticket to feeling bad all the time.

Woollies seaweed flavored rice crackers are weird. Not at all like the Sakata ones - and the Aldi seaweed rice crackers are like the Sakata ones but not as much seaweed. The Woollies ones are more like salt & vinegar pringles. 100% do NOT recommend. Will use the remainder of the packet crushed as a sprinkle on the next tray bake. They are not nice as crackers.
