I spent 2+ years and all my personal savings making this game (alone). I love survival games, but i also like cooking… so how about survival game with realistic cooking & eating animations?

    Looks cool!

How about the sound and the music? Are you doing these yourself as well?

Even its naming conventions, “the short snow” is basically a clone of “The Long Dark”

I don’t know if the devs at Hinterland should be flattered or appalled. I wonder how their lawyers will feel about it.

The same person is also promoting it on another account, and I saw 2 or 3 other of their posts that include the game’s title.

Does it really look like a threat?

But it doesn’t matter. A similar naming convention isn’t infringement. A clone is almost never infringement. There are loads of fan reimaginings, spiritual successors, etc, that obliquely reference their inspiration material. Unless the name is so similar it will cause confusion, there’s no case.

It just seems kinda lame, weak and tasteless to me. TLD is a game that is still releasing content, it’s not like it’s an homage to game from the past, it’s a blatant knockoff, like tracing artwork and saying “I made this”.

I spend a lot of money on steam, almost entirely on indie projects, I’m typically happy to support anyone making something new and interesting. If people support this project and buy it, good for them, but I don’t fuck with it.

Except straight up cloning a game takes a crazy amount of work, and making something similar with your own ideas is what the overwhelming majority of progress in gaming is.

I’m not saying this game is or isn’t worth it, but it absolutely isn’t unethical in any way to do your own version of a game you like with your own opinions on how the game should work shining through. Complaining about this is comparable to the guys who sued epic thinking they were entitled to the battle royale concept they didn’t invent.

You own your complete package, and your assets. You don’t own the concepts inside it.

I hate this kind of sob story promotion. Your game should speak for itself, I don’t care how you manage your finances.

Also, this looks like The Long Dark, and I am absolutely tired of open world survival crafting early access games.

    Good luck.
