and whether it is a “defensive measure” or one hinting at future aggression.
Too true too true. Gotta watch out for
the USChina, the country infamous for aggression all over the globe.Smart move. 2020 showed us that “just-in-time” supply chains are a massive liability and far too fragile in the face of any disruption.
We kinda gave up on the future over here. It was never supposed to happen, I guess, we were supposed to just have the 90s stretched out into infinity and maybe tinker one or two things on the edges. The only people that think about the future in any positive way are socialists. Every other future, if people even conceive of it besides being insulted when asked “where will you be in 2040?”, is just dark and please we don’t want to worry about it ever.
Don’t you know, history ended in 1991. Peak humanity was achieved. Liberalism won.

“where will you be in 2040?”
Honestly? Prolly trying not to die during a heat bulb event, hopefully via cooperating with an anarcho commune that’s been cracking open abandoned Amazon warehouses like fuckin’ tomb raiders
“I love”
I hate it.
despite its economic downturn
Lmao, liberals live in a fantasy land.
China collapsing any day now!
It had a ‘slowdown’ in the sense that it went from 10% annual growth to around 5%.
This happened because you can’t grow at 10% forever, they started low.
I think China could possibly grow at 10% still if they adopted awful policies and engaged in number padding like GDP obsessed economies do. But it’s rather that they realise that they don’t need to and they shouldn’t.
The only stockpiling I’ve seen here in the US are the white supremacists plotting for a race war, Christian nationalists plotting for the Rapture, and doomsday preppers plotting for total collapse. Not one of them plans for their community, but only for their immediate interests and any right-wing followers they have.
There might be some anarchist and leftist preppers somewhere, but I’m not aware of them sadly.
It begs the question of why China is now frantically stockpiling such an array of commodities
