    Four spaces was helpful, but I can’t scooch the ears over. Also I tried carat eyes originally but they don’t format near the underscore

      The other thing you can do is put it entirely within a code block. 

          Then it should keep your spaces and enters.

You gotta use three ` above the code block, and then three ` below
