There are far too many posts with horrible grammar and spelling. It’s getting ridiculous.
I can’t be alone in noticing this, right?
I don’t have an autocorrect function on my pocket computer keyboard and avoid it like the plague when on my desktop.
I am aware I make mistakes (not a native english speaker) and have sausage fingers, so I do try to review what I write, before and after posting it.
I’m also not offended if someone points a mistake to me.
Since you won’t be offended, I’ll just point out that in English it’s usual to say “… someone points out a mistake to me.” (The rest is correct.)
Corrected!
Wat r u saying about speeling?
In the words of sweet brown, ain’t nobody got time for that. Some don’t have the education for that. You also don’t count all the errors people did take the time to correct, before or after posting.
me on discord:
I can’t believe I misspelled that (edit)
Literally everyone else:
I can’t believe I mispelled that *mispellled *mispelt *fucked up Damn autocorrelation fuck
Some people are just morally opposed to ever using an edit button I supposde
You’re talking about proof reading posts on internet forums? How long have you been using the internet? There was a time when we didn’t all have smart phones with auto correct or grammarly extensions for our web browsers. Grammar and spelling has only gotten better
Im certainly guilt of this. In my defense while I generally did well in school, my worst subjects were language relate. Foreign was what I did worst at but spelling and grammer in my native came next worst. The best I did in subjects around language was more around reading comprehension and in writing more with creative aspect.

On one hand some posters don’t give a shit. On the other hand, proofreading your own text is systematically harder than one that you didn’t write. I’m sure there’s some scientific explanation; it’s some kind of fact of life. It’s way easier to spot mistakes in other people’s texts. So don’t be too harsh on other posters; they didn’t hire a proofreader and that’s alright.
Most of the time I don’t get bothered by typing/autofill errors in others’ posts. (My own often get edited several times.)
But some bring out my inner schoolmarm. I try to restrict my corrections to times when the error is confusing, or if I have a mnemonic that might be helpful. I bear in mind that this is an informal forum, but someone might want to be able to get it right when it matters.
I used to get really annoyed with blatant errors but I’ve grown more tolerant whenever they seem to be bona fide.
What I find a harder time with is the anti intellectual attitude of some people (I’m speaking overall online, not specifically on Lemmy), where writing poorly is used as a kind of code. And in the same vein, people who write using proper grammar and spelling being mocked.

I think part of the problem is that people see the same grammatical mistakes repeatedly and think it’s normal; especially since it seems most of the written content people consume is written by the average person and not edited (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram etc). So they honestly don’t know what’s proper or not.
For example, I’ve seen multiple YouTube shorts in which people pluralized words by adding " 's" to them. Someone I met recently thought the same too.
Not sure if there’s a solution since grammar and spelling aren’t things people care about. Can’t force people to have better written content if their viewers don’t care or know any better.

It’s not dead! I make Apple intelligent proofread what I write. 🤓
…but yeah, I’ve completely forgotten how to proofread.
This is the most reddit thread I’ve ever seen on lemmy, get ahold of yourselves.
