My only criticism is the subscription fee instead of a one off charge for the full set of features. I would like a lot of them but I don’t need cloud sync or another ongoing cost to worry about.
Lemmy doesn’t. The app might. I don’t use sync but if I’m an app developer I could make money plugging advertisements into my app. If I design the UI well enough, and make the ads unobtrusive, I might just make enough money and not piss anyone off.
That’s good to know. I bought several Reddit apps over my 15 year history with the site, I don’t have a problem supporting developers but I absolutely hate the subscription model. It feels like letting a colony of ticks leech off of you when literally EVERYONE is doing it.

I’ve just pushed beta 25 which adds the option to remove the ads as a one time purchase.
Hopefully they’ll approve the update within the next 24 hours
<3 can tell you did some on the backend… smoother than reddit’s client
Does it just remove the ads visualization or actually disables all related data collection and tracking?
I’m pretty sure analytics is optional even if you didn’t pay a dime but feel free to correct me on that
I don’t know. That’s why I was asking lj
Excellent, I’m looking forward to this!
Wow you work fast.
That’s great to hear!
Loving it, keep up the good work.
But lemmy does not have ads. I’m confused

Agree. That’s a no from me. I’d pay if I like it, but injecting ads into the feed and I’m out. Just trying liftoff now. Seems solid.
He wrote in another thread there will be a lifetime price for us who hates subscriptions. It’s coming.

It better be coming within the 20th of August, cause that’s when my Google rewards balance is expiring.
It’s already here (although maybe not in all regions?), it’s an option in the drawer:
He said in another comment in this chain he’s submitted the update with the one-time ad removal and is just waiting for approval.
Well, looking at the prices, I guess it’ll do with a small discount…
