Hey Everyone,

I used to play MTG back in the day (sold my decks years ago) but now that I’m a dad the launch of Lorcana has me diving back into TCGs with Lorcana. I’ve been following news and discussions on other sites. Mainly that other one and on discord. I was wondering how much interest there is in starting an official Lorcana community. I know there is a new one on dbzer0 that is inactive, so l’m thinking of starting one on Lemmy.world and seeding it with content if there are enough people that are interested.

It would mainly focus on news and gameplay discussions. Things like daily or weekly card discussions and announcements. As far as trading and selling I would encourage others to take that to DMs but wouldn’t necessarily be against it unless it becomes an issue (revealing personal info and what not). So it wouldn’t strictly be a trading community. Just something to stay in the know, discuss, show off your pulls and collections. That sort of thing.

Mods, if this post is out of line please let me know and I’ll remove it. I searched around and couldn’t find a better place to gauge interest, even though TCGs aren’t technically board games.

Also, for anyone interested, I am a mod of a few other very active communities already. You can check my profile. So I would be looking to be similarly active in a potential Lorcana community. Just wanted to mention this so people would have some confidence in how I intend to run the community.

    I mean, I personally have no problem with you creating and keeping up a community, that sounds pretty awesome.

    What is the deal with Lorcana anyway? It seems to have the backing of Ravensburger, a decent ruleset, and some of the most beautiful art on the cards that I’ve seen…

    …but it seems to be destined to failure? I’m not sure if Disney just can’t be arsed with it - my local department store has an ubergeeky TCG section and the lad who runs it has heard of it but doesn’t know much about the logistics or when it’s getting stocked. It just seems to be on life support already, much like the straight-to-VHS Disney movies or single-run clothing lines that end up in Orlando stores en masse.

    I hope it gets a fair shot at expanding and finding it’s own lease of life.

      They have expansions planned far in the future. They just didn’t anticipate the demand. They announced yesterday that they will reprint the First Chapter and launch the reprint alongside the first expansion (Floodborn) in a bundle this holiday 2023 (USA) and do the same for Europe in January 2024. They will be also launching Floodborn expansion as a solo expansion beginning in mid November in LGS and Dec 1st in big box.

      I was able to get the 3 starters and a trove (8 booster packs) just last week when my local big box did a big restock. I’ve played the game with my wife mainly and we are both loving it. I don’t think it’s on life support, I think it just had a rocky launch.
