DON’T MOUTH THE PIPET!!!
Sad pipet noises
Explanation? Are these guys huffing ether or something?
They pipette by mouth, which is not very safe.
but how are we supposed to accidentally discover artificial sweeteners?
They are using their mouths to suck liquids into pipettes. It was an old and dangerous lab technique.
Then how are we supposed to do that?
Use a rubber bulb on the end of the pipette. That way your
cartel memberslab techs are safe.We still use mouth in secondary school. I guess its same in undergraduate degree too. But yeah we only take the base in acid-base titration in pipette
Jesus Christ. 20 years ago my chem teacher used to tell me about the bad old days of having to do this, that it’s still happening today is horrifying.
definitely not standard procedure here in the US. And basic solutions can be more dangerous than acids.
I guess they only gjve non toxic bases for school
Now you know
Poi ump
I am a bit concerned everyone is just mentioning the squeeze rubber ball thing, maybe because its time appropriate for the images.
But in modern times people should use something like this https://www.integra-biosciences.com/global/en/pipette-controllers/pipetboy-acu-2
That’s the worst squirtgun ever.
I love my drummond, if only it came in cool transparent colors too 🥲
We use drinking straws. You just do the “tap the top opening of the straw really fast” trick and it sucks the medicine right up.
rubber bulb. its a bit like the end of an eye dropper if you ever used the old fashioned kind. The modern ones are actually sorta complex where you can let go and the liquid will stay inside and you press an area near the kneck which will release the vacum. back in those days it was just a bulb and a bit frustrating to use so they did this dangerous technique.
With a squeezy rubber bulb thingy.
Basically it took many years before someone developed something that could be run with a trigger or button. Before that you used a vacuum (your mouth) to pull liquid into a pipette. Heard an older chemistry professor talk about a colleague who years before swallowed a salmonella sample by accident. A lot of people surely got hurt this way.
not a scientist but I’m guessing they are siphoning some chemical by sucking up a small amount in the tube to transfer it to another container
Aww, I thought they were blowing bubbles. Looked like fun.
Look how long their fancy straws are! I bet they keep chemicals a safe distance away from possible ingestion!
I’m wondering if a crazy straw was tested…for safety
lol lol let me suck up this salmonella sample real fast
Uh, yeah, suck it, pipet boy.
I thought they were sipping pee to test for diabetes 😋😌

Pipettecore ftw!?
