UPDATE

We are now updated to 0.18.2-rc.2, which includes the hotfix that addresses the recent vulnerability that enabled the lemmy.world hacks. We’re now federated again, with registrations open and communites now able to be created by anyone.

Hello everyone.

Stellar Castle has been down over the weekend due to some technical hurdles with the homelab. Down time was extended during the discovery and investigation of the recent hacks to lemmy.world and others. Due to an exposed vulnerability to the Lemmy service, I decided to keep it down until I felt it was safe to continue operations.

At this time, investigation has not shown forum.stellarcastle.net to be affected by the recent hacks made to other federated instances.

As an extra precaution, we have since defederated, closed registrations, and disabled creating new communities until this vulnerability is resolved.

During this down time I’ve also decided to migrate this instance to the cloud, in order to mitigate/reduce all the hardware and networking challenges I was facing.

With all that said, we are back online :)
