I am moving all of my gear into a rack and building a NAS and I would like to be able to connect this NAS to a SFP+ port on my switch. I will be routing every other network cable thru a Patch panel and all the positions in my rack will be filed up so I really don’t have a choice. I was however unable to find a SFP+ keystone. I can either just pull the cable thru an empty hole in the patch panel, or use an optical cable, but I wanted to know if a SFP+ keystone even exists and if I could use them.
You’re looking for an “LC keystone coupler” like this:
Sfp needs something to interface to. You have to use copper or fiber for your demarcs
SFP+ is the port that you insert the transceiver into. The module will likely have an LC connector for fiber. You can also get a copper SFP with an RJ45 connector. For your panel you would likely want an LC coupler.
Some other optical connector types are ST, SC and FC, although these are less common, and in some cases obsolete.
An sfp is just a modular plug - the physical media is what matters for the patch. So you’d get a fiber jack or rj45 depending on what cable you’re running. The only thing relevant to the sfp/sfp+ module is the switch you’re sticking it in.
