We’re developing open source industrial machines that can be made for a fraction of commercial costs, and sharing our designs online for free. The goal of Open Source Ecology is to create an open source economy – an efficient economy which increases innovation by open collaboration.
There was (is?) a community here for open source ecology, but it never got much activity.
I love the idea of it, but unfortunately its not a terribly well managed project from what I saw, which I think hinders how active the community can be. A lot of videos of their projects, for example, are a silent timelapse of some feature they were working on a house, with the camera set quite far away, so very little useful information could be gathered, making it honestly pretty pointless to even record.
I think if the project just had a better media ability, like if they made videos in the style of codyslab or something, they would blow up, but as it is they really just did that one ted talk to get everyone excited, and then just a dribble of interesting stuff coming from it.
The community here got removed because it had no active moderation, but if there is a lot of interest in it again we can restore it. But I agree with your impression in general.
