For me the shape of water was the worst film I’ve ever seen because the whole story was just so weird and ridiculous… An alien and a woman getting together.

The worst part about it is that critics at the time were praising the film…

The Room is fantastic, but it’s so bad.

I fell into a rabbit hole of watching bad movies some years ago, starting with the room. I sat through The Room, Sharknado, Rubber, Attack of the Killer Tomato, Birdemic, and then found all of Syfy’s weird “Giant X vs. Mega Y” movies.

The Room is fantastic at being a terrible movie. It’s bad, but it’s also immensely enjoyable. It has terrible humor that doesn’t work, no acting of any kind, weird pictures of spoons, actors getting swapped out half way through. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does.

I quickly realised that while The Room is terrible, there are far worse films out there. Some are hilariously bad, some are cringely bad, and some are just straight up bad.

There’s the whole “it’s so bad it’s good” mentality, but The Room is so insufferably bad that it goes way passed the “it’s good” part and just goes to being one of the most irritating movies I’ve ever seen.

Add on the weird cult following and it just gets worse, to me.

I may be part of the ‘cult’ - I watch it once or twice a year when it’s shown in the local cinema.

But I won’t defend the movie - it’s really bad in every possible way, and the background story of how it was made is at some points also sketchy.

But sitting with friends and others who knows the movie, and have a fun time yelling quotes is just that, fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

From time to time I bring people who don’t know the movie, and I make sure to inform them, that they should expect the worst movie ever, but perhaps the most fun they’ve had going to a movie.

I’ve seen it once at home and once in the cinema, and I 100% agree, it’s absolutely brilliant fun!

The Room is fun/bad so I don’t think of it as a bad movie. When I think of a bad movie, I think of one I never want to see ever again. That’s just my two cents though.
