  • Israel offers no strategic advantage to the U.S. The U.S. has extensive military presence in the region without their land. The U.S. does not have a significant or unique trade relationship with Israel (we mostly just trade diamonds). And Israel offers no special capability to the U.S. regarding technology or foreign intelligence.

Our relationship with Israel is based on two things: mythology and political donations. That’s it. That’s all it has ever been. Conservatives (including neo-libs) who receive money from Israel occasionally make up fake reasons, but those reasons always disintegrate under the lightest scrutiny.

It’s time to end our extremely one-sided relationship with Israel. This is a deadly, toxic relationship that destabilizes our more profitable relationships with Israel’s neighbors in the middle east.

  • So… Alabama admits they are completely incapable of processing voter registration applications? They processed these applications from non-citizens, registered them to vote in their system and issued voter registration cards to them. And now they are admitting their complete ineptitude at the very last minute.

And in a second phase of astonishing ineptitude, Alabama is now purging citizens who are legally permitted to vote. It really sounds like they need some compulsory federal oversight in their voter registration process!

Conservatives are just not good at governing.

  • Do you have a source for this?

My understanding is the primary trade between the U.S and Israel is diamonds. We each export over $1B worth of diamonds and also each import over $1B worth of diamonds between one another. In the past year, the U.S. imported about half a billion dollars more from Israel than it exported to Israel (again mostly diamonds in both directions).

The diamond trade between our countries does not justify our participation in unnecessary wars (or genocides) in my opinion. It seems unlikely to be the reason we are so committed to this relationship. I think AIPAC’s financial involvement in our elections represents a much bigger reason we support Israel.
