Correct. However the 172.16.42.0/24 block is the default for a WiFi Pineapple. Any other range is usually ok, but the 42 on a /24 specifically would make me (and most people who actually know what a WiFi Pineapple is) avoid that network.
Do they all really? I know GrapheneOS does, and I think DivestOS even says “use my OS to stay as up to date as possible, but if you have a current/supported Pixel, use GrapheneOS instead for superior security.” But I don’t recall other OSes really going “we’re more secure than GrapheneOS and here’s why.”

Most organizations care about maintaining document compatibility, especially formatting, and that usually means Office365. Microsoft is notorious for publishing a standard and then ignoring their own standard, making it exceedingly difficult to use other office suites.
I’ve heard OnlyOffice does the best at maintaining compatibility.

I’m hoping for a Pixel Tablet 2 with this (Pixel Tablet doesn’t have it, but the Pixel 8 does for some reason) and MTE security capability, and I’ll transition to that with GrapheneOS over a laptop.

The difference is that you are expected to pay. Louis and FUTO are very explicit about this.
I don’t really follow them, but I did skim the Grayjay FAQ, and it never says that. Just that they make money by selling licenses, no subscription, and it works identically without paying. I don’t suppose you have a source that is more explicit than the official Grayjay FAQ page?
Sounds to me like you need an upgrade. I tried Jerboa, but it felt like it always lagged behind or was buggy for some reason. Then I switched to Voyager, which gets constant updates. Also, it’s a PWA, so I don’t need an app and it can thus be used on mobile, tablet, desktop, etc. Not to mention the theming is one of the best, in my opinion.
The ending period? Not for me on Voyager.

Last I checked, their provided server code lags behind their production server, so you rarely get to see the current version. However, that’s kinda the point of E2EE, is you don’t have to trust the server.
Most browsers I run into, you can search from the address bar. You can also disable or point to a different search engine, if you want. So you could skip going to the site. That aside…most browsers would accept google.com and not need the full https://www
I say most anecdotally as I haven’t tested them all.
With most PC things (RAM, disk space, CPU, etc etc), too much is better than too little, provided you have the resources.

You clearly have not worked at most larger companies which have Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) which typically involves not modifying the PC and OS with threat of termination when (not if) discovered.

You clearly don’t know what a WiFi Pineapple is, because we’re zeroing in on the 42 and you liken it to the entire 172.16 block. And linking every .xyz domain to a specific block (42) that is used by default for a pentest device is even more misleading.
