  • Well, valheim now works straight out of the box on Pop_OS so that’s an improvement! Haven’t downloaded other games so not sure about that just yet though, still setting up my usual programs now.

On the other hand I kinda hate its GUI, I installed that gnome extension to make the toolbars customizeable and now it just crashes every once in a while, for example just few minutes ago alt-tab stopped working and everything minimalized and became unresponsive so I had to force shut it off. An hour ago I closed the laptop lid and when I reopened it later, the OS woke up to the login screen but everything was frozen and I couldn’t do anything. It’s a bit of a cursed OS, you can’t even click the folder path to copy the path, I miss mint lol.

  • I dunno whats the official definition, I just remember the old (phpbb) forums having a complex roles structure and privileges so a subset of community would often have access to subforums or threads that other people can’t see. You’d have a public face of the forum and then private categories within it that wouldn’t be visible from outside.

This is more of a reddit-like news bulletin where everything is public and open by default - in the case of fediverse even more so since everything automatically gets pushed to other servers that you have no control over.

  • Sounds like you want forums, basically :D

I’m pretty nostalgic for forums myself but while they are great for smaller communities centered around a specific topic, they were really difficult to navigate when it comes to larger general communities IMHO. Fediverse with its reddit-like structure has an advantage here, and I personally like the idea of AP and multiple smaller communities interacting. We just need better tech and UI.

Thanks but I said as much already in the main post above ( “do we know if they are actually used for anything besides crafting the new legendary armor once it’s available in 9 months?”). I already have legendary armor from raiding so I’m not interested in this one, and considering the essences are accountbound I’m not sure what are they good for to me.

Tier 2 rifts have a proper champion miniboss that’s much tougher to kill so I think it’s only an issue with T1s (and those are meant for < 5 players anyway). My bigger possible issue is with rewards since I’m still not sure why are we closing them, at least PoF had the new armors, elegy mosaics, trade contracts in addition to regular drops like unids and money.

Another problem I see with dailies/weeklies is that they aren’t synced between players. It would be great if my friends would have the same objectives as me, that we can pursue together.

They are actually, but only between people who have the same preference (pve vs pvp vs wvw) and the same expansions on their acc.

Can’t comment on story much but voice acting and the setup are really good so far, looking forward to learning more about the kryptis, wizards and demons! It definitely feels soooo janky at times - overlapping audio, desynced cinematics and sound, progression breaking bugs in story instances, lots of backtracking to home base, etc. but its still fun.

The new WV reward system seems… interesting. If anything I think the rewards might be too good because I kinda want to grind every daily and weekly now and I’m pretty sure I will hate it by the end of quarter? I really hate the UI/UX on it however, it’s just a plain ugly interface that is not fun to browse. I didn’t even initially realize there are additional rewards if you scroll down, and then I realized you can’t sort or search them anyway. I’d rather have a basic list at this point tbh.

The rifts are kinda disappointing, we only have tier 1s and they are kinda lame both in terms of encounter itself and rewards you get from it.

Runes seem torn in identity, 90% of them are fun utilities but the 10% will be meta defining and the only ones in actual use. They should have made them either all utility and niche, or all build-defining. Trying to do both just makes most of them a waste in comparison.

  • I mean yeah, but what do you wanna do about it? It still has some positives to keep me around and playing, more than many other games, so while I wish there was more I think it’s healthier to just be happy about the little that it is there. It’s their own loss if they can’t figure out how to make it more lucrative, years ago I’d buy the ultimate expansion editions of HoT and PoF and now I’m fine just getting the bare minimum and then spend the rest on other games.

I definitely feel the lack of ambition and/or budget from their side but literally nothing we do can affect that. Even if the entire gaming community of lemmy/kbin/reddit/twitter united and complained, it’d be a drop in the ocean compared to the overall casual market and be barely a blip on NCSoft’s radar.

As with most things in life, enjoy the things you love, try to find the positives and don’t lose sleep over things you can’t change. I don’t know if GW2 is going to be around in another 5 or 10 years but for now it’s enjoyable enough and I’m looking forward to SOTO even though it’s not as much as I’d like to get.

  • The drawback of game being based on horizontal progression is that at this point when you reach level 80 you have to find your own goals, if that’s getting ascended gear, leveling and learning new classes, farming gold, unlocking skins or something else.

Maybe getting the living story and expansions would be a good next step since it adds more story content and open world maps to play through, as well as more friendly instanced content in form of strike missions and eventually raids (once you’re ready to tackle them).

And yeah fractals are fun but people tend to speedrun them a lot since most people are experienced with them. Try clarifying in your LFG that you want to learn and practice instead of speedrun.
