I’ve been playing Dnd for several years now, so it’s kinda hard for me to determine what is common sense and what is just nerd knowledge ingrained into my head. But I think alot of stuff gets explained fairly well. Hope you have fun :D
No, as far as I know there are just some references to the older games. But to understand the story they are not necessary. A general knowledge about Dnd is helpful though.

Overall she has moved left, but recently she had some really weird reactionary takes and she tends to pal around with people who are nice to her regardless of their political views. Her current boyfriend is, as far as I know, a conservative. Imo seems kinda spineless to be friends with people who actually don’t want you to exist.
I almost exclusively play single player games or multiplayer games with friends I know in real life. I’ve had some bad experiences with online gaming and they are often way too stressful for my liking.
