Unfortunately I go there still anonymously for when I need help or advice on certain life things, but I browse in a social media sense on Lemmy.

I’ve said this before: if there was a way to create more discoverability of Lemmy through a search engine, I’d choose it over reddit. Lemmy has different domain names based on server/instance, and that makes wild card searching impossible.

I know there are other search engines out there specifically for Lemmy, but that doesn’t work for me.

  • You quoted the article as reporting on “accusations” that the mother tested positive for meth while pregnant. Your interlocutor seems to have glossed over that since it is possible for a party to claim something without evidence backing it up.

But say they did have evidence that she ingested meth. In a state like Alabama, there is a strong incentive to skew evidence to support the widespread belief that women don’t have a choice over whether they reproduce or not: if you have sex, then you must have your kid.

So, your interlocutor was merely calling into question the source that produced the accusations, as well as any other sources that produced evidence that showed she ingested meth recently while pregnant, possibly leading to the accusations.

The point about whether foster care is more or less sufferable than dying pre- or postnatal is not what your interlocutor was addressing.

  • What was the voting age at the time of that election in Gaza? I’ve heard that the average age of Palestinians is 18, although that might only be a recent statistic. If the voting age of that population is so young, you might imagine the ignorance that population would have towards issues, or the potential that population might have for manipulation.

Did that 2007 election take place like US ones, where only like 2/3rds of people even vote at all?

Questions like this really make you wonder if it was even possible for the election results that put Hamas into power to be representative of the general population.

So, all of this is to say that I agree with you.

  • I feel like this can still be a native lawn depending on which biome it’s in. Seems more desert like than a prairie/forest type “native lawn” you might traditionally think of.

But yeah native can look different depending on location so I might be ok with this

  • There is the risk of tick transmission of Lyme disease in tall grass. I suppose you can pretreat to prevent contraction, but mowing grass means you don’t have those threats/hazards to worry about.

I still hate lawns and wish more would be native, but I wonder if there’s a way to grow a native lawn such that you invite the good wildlife and keep out the bad. Would need a biologist to chime in
