  • At minimum I’d suggest getting something to insulate them from the window sill, this could be PIR board or a silicone mat, but the heat mats I’ve used in the past have been very effective, the ones I’ve used are about 18w, which isn’t a huge power draw.

No clue how cold it gets where you are, but the tomatoes and beans certainly seem like they’d benefit.

Heating lamps are effectively a waste of power.

  • …Like you realise most secondary schools have the set of responsibilities and expectations on a single page that the child will sign in year 7, right?

It’s basically just symbolic and of course you can choose to not sign it and will still go to the school, but to say that they never agreed to it, atleast in my experience is a stretch. Though obviously there is a lot more nuance in this conversation.

The reality is underfunding of both schools, as well as sports/youth clubs, the schools being unable to make effective punishments, and parents not caring what their child gets up to both online and in school likely are the key things to blame.

Plus the effect on the psyche of children growing up in a world which they know is fucked and seeing genuinely so little to improve it probably doesn’t help.

  • I have experienced this, a grand total of twice, but not for 5-10 minutes (once I was in a towel and came back around vibrating on the floor which was confusing but probably was the longest one at a minute or two).

I was a chronic joint smoker and would get lightheaded standing up in general. Typically since having switched to vaping it no longer happens. Is the high otherwise pleasurable for you?

Do you have a heart/lung/blood pressure condition in general?

  • https://pressgazette.co.uk/publishers/nationals/guardian-steve-bell-cartoon-netanyahu/ this article goes into the past accusations a bit more, tbh I’m struggling to see it as well:

" The incident is not the first involving Bell, The Guardian and allegations of anti-Semitism against his cartoons. In 2018 he said he was censored by the newspaper’s editor, Katharine Viner, when the editorial team declined to publish a cartoon depicting a Palestinian medic shot dead by Israeli forces in a fireplace besides Netanyahu and then-prime minister Theresa May.

Bell subsequently sent the cartoon in an email to the entire Guardian editorial staff, from where it was leaked to Huffpost. Critics argued the image evoked Nazi gas chambers, which Bell responded was “the last thing on my mind when I drew it”.

Viner told The Guardian’s reader’s editor that Bell’s point “could easily have been made in a way that didn’t reference fire or ovens”.

In 2019, another of Bell’s cartoons – this time depicting Labour deputy leader Tom Watson as a witch hunter looking for anti-Semitic tropes – was blocked. In November 2020, The Guardian received 32 complaints of anti-Semitic imagery over a Bell cartoon which did make it to print and depicted Labour leader Keir Starmer holding the head of predecessor Jeremy Corbyn on a plate, alluding to the beheading of St John the Baptist. "

  • As the pay, support and education for officers diminishes, the police as a profession become less attractive to those who are intelligent/educated, who might carry a slightly authoritarian slant but ultimately view their role in the context of being beneficial to society/preventing crime etc.

Due to Tory cuts to forces, the numbers of those who are more thuggish, less educated, more racist, and generally shouldn’t be policing wider society due to unchecked and unchallenged beliefs increases.

I know people who hadn’t achieved their GCSEs saying that it didn’t matter as they’d become police.

Like I’m personally not the biggest fan of the police, but those who were educated enough to get better jobs but stayed in the force because they believed they were genuinely helping have left, only leaving mostly those who seek power/control over other people. Obviously this is a general sweeping statement, but like everything else under Tory rule it’s been hollowed out.
