I prefer Midnights to TPD - I’ve played the former on heavy repeat, but have found is easy to forget about TPD. This is partly my fault for downloading the Anthology - it turns out there’s such a thing as too much Swift. I got into her because of ‘folklore’ and ‘evermore’, and I’ve never gone back and listened to much of her earlier stuff (I remember liking the music video for ‘Shake It Off’, though).

My favourite song from Tortured Poets is probably ‘I can do it with a broken heart’. It doesn’t feel that much different than ‘Down Bad’ tbh, which is part of my problem with the album (it’s all a bit samey). My other problem is that break-up songs are usually more about the idea of a break-up, and are relatable to your own circumstances, but there’s songs on there that are too specifically about the break-up with one particular dickhead bloke, and I’m left realising I’m not enough of a fan to know who’s she on about.

I’ve had that problem too (messing around with test instances) - for anyone else wondering why: it’s because the RSA keypair for me@mydomain has changed, and remote instances fail to validate message headers signed with the new private key, because they’re still using their copy of an old public key.

That’s arguably the expected behaviour - for a discussion, ‘link’ effectively takes you to the comments, for an article (or a link to a image), it takes you there instead.

You could use ‘guid’ instead - that always links to the post on Lemmy, and it usually contains a useful thing on other sites’ RSS feeds.

Oh, right. Sorry. I’ve gone back and checked the post I was thinking of when I made that comment, and - yeah - it turns out I was misremembering / didn’t properly investigate the first time.

Yeah - I think anything the UI is doing, it’s getting the info from the API, so the poster would’ve had to use the ‘cross-post’ feature. There are some apps (e.g. Voyager) that try to wrangle cross-posts by title or URL, but title-matching can give false postives, and URL-matching usually assumes that one link hasn’t picked up some cruft, and it can’t do much for uploaded images if the poster didn’t cross-post (because it’ll be 2 different files with different URLs)

I’m not sure that it ever quite worked - the videos currently on Lemmy are likely to ones brought in manually, rather than new ones that have come in via federation.

The community copies (on lemmy.ml, endlesstalk.org, etc) all show 0 subscribers. At a guess, it’s because the format of the Followers collection on PeerTube is slightly different - it doesn’t have the empty ‘items’ array that Lemmy expects, so it just rejects it. As such, any new posts will also get rejected by Lemmy (the same way it does if a community genuinely does have 0 subscribers). A couple of Updates have come through, so maybe Updates circumvent that check.

I think they were asking if you were a bot because your account has been set up as one: your profile on mstdn says ‘automated’, and if you do curl --header 'accept: application/activity+json' --location https://mstdn.social/users/internetisscary | jq . then it says your ActivityPub ‘type’ field is ‘Service’ rather than ‘Person’.

It’s usually just because they have to pay an on-going licence fee to keep using it, and after a certain amount of time, the revenue that a particular game is expected to bring in isn’t worth the fee.

It’s hit and miss. Some instances are sending the same activity 2 or 3 times, and there’s a theoretical maximum on the number of activities that an instance can process, so whether federation of a particular thing happens depends on how whelmed a server is at the exact moment you send it.

I’ve also seen a comment from lemmy.ml not being acted on by LW, so there are some drops happening.
