  • I think this depends on what invisible means. Does it mean no detectable signature - IR/thermal, scent, sound, etc.? Or just not on the visible light spectrum for humans? If not detectable at all, I think it would hold greater value for information gathering and have a lot of useful applications in hostage and other criminal situations, as well as state security through a very useful means of tradecraft. All that’s out the door if a couple of rottweilers can sniff me out though.

It’s a bit of a monkey’s paw question as having either power puts a huge burden of secrecy as well as the threat of danger on yourself and whomever you choose to share knowledge of it that with.

  • I watched my dad fall into depression after retirement. The same for a family friend who was able to retire early in their 40’s. I think a lot of people only plan for the financial side of retirement and don’t plan for post-retirement hobbies and activities. It took these 2 people’s examples to open my eyes a bit and start planning for a heavy hobbying which will also look different from light hobbying where you are still committed to other things like work and raising a family.

  • Not sure what flavor you’re looking for but here’s some of the ones I enjoyed:

    • Pan’s Labyrinth - fairy tale horror
    • Gretel & Hansel -fairy tale horror
    • Babadook - dramatic horror
    • Mothman Prophecies - dramatic horror
    • Hereditary - dramatic horror
    • The Descent - adventure/action horror
    • Jeepers Creepers - adventure/action horror
    • The Mist - adventure/action horror
    • The Crazies - adventure/action horror
    • 10 Cloverfield Lane - adventure/action horror
    • This is the End - comedy horror
    • Shaun of the Dead - comedy horror
    • Zombieland - comedy horror.

On my Halloween movie list this year I’m planning on watching

    • Little Otik (fairy tale horror with stop motion & live action - looks artsy)
    • Lamb (supernatural horror)
    • Tigers are not Afraid (supposed to be similar to Pan’s Labyrinth)
    • Midnight Meat Train (Clive Barker horror- one of Bradley cooper’s earlier movies)

Saw some other good ones already posted here - Event Horizon, Midsommar - so I think you’ll get a good list.

  • So it sounds like this is a profit-driven decision with auteur dramas in general just not being as profitable as action films or films that have some element of action.

Kind of a radical idea, but I always wondered if the movie industry would do better with different pricing models. When people go to the movies nowadays it seems like its just a better deal over all to see something big budget (even though it may not be an especially good storyline). So maybe just so we can get more variety out of it, they price accordingly and see how the market reacts?

  • The video didn’t give a whole lot of information but it’s been in the media buzz for a while so for those who are curious here’s some features and extra info on the K5:

    • 5’2" tall and weighs 400 lbs
    • Top speed is 3mph
    • 4 HD cameras and 1 IR camera for 360 surveillance & record capability
    • 2.5 - 3 hours of patrol time on full charge, then 20-30 min to recharge
    • Will not record audio or use facial recognition
    • Panic button feature located near the top front of the robot
    • Will be on a 2 month trial, midnight to 6am
    • One of the versions knocked down a toddler in a mall back in 2016 Article here

So to answer everyone’s main questions, yes the K5 will be fkd with by hooligans. Inevitably. It’s what they want though so they can bring out the upgraded K5 version with the fun features.
