I completely disagree with your assessment on every single level and I also think you’re being radically unfair to the crew of Voyager.

    Feeling’s mutual.

For the audience. For us to go “Woah.”

What is there to go “Woah.” over? If it’s a simple decision with an obvious outcome? If there is no weight to it, then why should we care about the scene at all?

How unusual it is that they do not act is the exact reason I say they are frozen by the moral dilemma. I am not saying they were quiet because they were ordered to. I am saying they are quiet and doing what they were ordered to.

Their dead silence is the argument. When has four minutes passed without any of the main cast giving their thoughts about the current events? They don’t have to, because it’s obvious. I know you don’t think so, which is what baffles me.

We are both claiming the very same things to mean very different things. If there is no emotion in the scene, then why is it in the episode at all? If Janeway made the decision and everyone is A-okay with it, then why show their reaction at all? I think a dead stare conveys much more than a thousand words could.

Tuvix is inches from Toms face and Tom doesn’t show a single shred of emotion.

Tom is sitting there with his mouth half open, not being able to say anything. I think the directing was clear there. For four entire minutes we follow as Janeway carries out the “death sentence”. We start with Tuvix protesting it, then the silence is only broken by Janeway’s orders, and the Doctor’s short objection. Nobody is okay with this, and everybody knows this.

On top of that, Paris and Kim both voice their concerns repeatedly throughout multiple episodes.

Exactly. Which is why this scene is as heavy as it is. Do you really think Chakotay has no issues with what’s happening? No. Everyone had already voiced their concerns. The decision has been made. There is nothing left to say.

When he’s going off at the end, he runs around the bridge and everyone is able to look him in the eye but not help him. You don’t get to that point unless you’re desperate for your friend back and Tuvix just… wasn’t their friend.

I disagree. I think the crew were dead silent because none of them could choose between Tuvok and Neelix or Tuvix. They were frozen by the moral dilemma, and defaulted to the I was just following orders state. Tuvix was shown making good friends with the crew. This was the exact reason it was a difficult decision, unlike if they had been able to separate them on the first day of Tuvix’s arrival.
