It matters because Palestinians have zero leverage. Their choice is either make peace and build a future, or keep fighting a losing battle, and ensure that their children never have a chance.
Israel can wait.
Israel is thriving.

The silver lining here is that because the Republican supreme Court so vastly overplayed their hand here, they might inadvertantly have saved the nation from a fascist takeover.
Hear me out:
Joe Biden was previously doomed to be a 1-term president. The last election was an anti-Trump referendum, and it was a squeaker! Very little abundant base was actually excited be voting for Biden.
Heading into the next election we were ALWAYS going to have a mediocre Biden presidency, where none of our major crisis was solved, because Biden never aimed that high to begin with. It was never going to be enough to excite the base on the left.
And worse, with Republicans controlling the House, the second half of Biden’s term was doomed to be a do-little presidency. Going into the election we were going to be asked to vote for a man who hadn’t done much for the last two years, and who never even talked a good game about the radical change we need (universal healthcare, universal basic income, removing ALL student debt, etc).
Trump being back in the ballot helps a bit, but I’m not sure people are still feeling the immediacy and the urgency to keep him out of the oval office as they did at the end of this last term.
It was going to be another squeaker, and my money was on the Republicans because of their ability to ratfuck the vote with gerrymandering and voter suppression.
But NOW we have the supreme Court lighting a fire under the left. They struck down roe, and they struck down student loan forgiveness.
That may be enough to put us over the edge.
Yeah, I see denouncing and illustrating terrorist attacks as a good thing.
Getting rid of misinformation is great.
Getting rid of accurately reported, gruesome images because of a government mandate flies in the face of the core principles of free speech. And it would cause real damage to the world.
Remember that it was only when the world actually saw images of the Nazi concentration camps that the world actually believed it. They’d heard about it for years, but it was largely ignored.
The alt-right are a cancer on the nation.
This is nothing to get excited about. Like so many other things there will be constant innovations on both sides. It’s an arms race between the scammers and the scam detectors.
Or that we’d be happy with Liz Cheney?!
Going to an anti-Israel rally is being anti-Jewish in the same way that cops who do stop and frisks are being racist.
There may be no hate in your heart, but your selective targeting of one group over another is playing into a bigoted system.
Like, I’m sure the anti-Israel protesters are just as outraged about North Korea, China, all the Arab countries that are oppressing women, killing homosexuals, and are so anti-Jewish that they’ve killed off or exiled their entire Jewish population.
… But they only ever get around to protesting Israel.
I cloned my own voice to prank a friend, and… Wow, it was a gut-dropping moment when I understood just how dangerous this tool is for precisely this type of scam.
It’s one thing to hear about it, but to actual experience it… Terrifying.
Biden is definitely doing much better than I expected. No question. Nowhere near the Bernie Sanders type that we need, but a pleasant surprise.
In another time, I probably would go on a rant about Boomer politics killing us slowly. But since Republicans have literally become fascist lunatics, Democrats have to stick together no matter what.
History has shown us just how bad things can get under fascism, and these Republicans are dangerous, stupid, and cruel, and stupid. And yes, I know I put stupid twice.
That’s great, but a civil war won’t be decided by citizens with guns. It’s going to be military and police forces. How confident are you that they are all on the right side?
I fully agree with your assessment of the basic partisan realities, but the ACA is the perfect example of the problem.
Democrats aim low, and compromise even lower.
The ACA was sold to us as a stepping stone. Democrats told us not to worry that it didn’t go far enough, because we would build on it.
What ACTUALLY happened was that passing it was like releasing a pressure valve, which took away all momentum for fixing the healthcare crisis.
Not only did they fail to expand it, they spent the next decade watching it get chipped away and chipped away.
15 YEARS LATER and we are STILL in a full-blown healthcare CRISIS.
So sure, the Republicans are evil fascists that will destroy the country, and must be defeated at all costs. But Democrats are embarrassingly incompetent, and I am so fucking tired of watching them tout their insufficient, mediocre accomplishments as if it’s something to be proud of.
This would backfire so hard on the Republicans.
Fox News would go down in flames. Every conservative news outlet would be sued out of existence. Their entire media ecosystem is based on demonstrable lies.
Meanwhile actual newspapers would be laughing their asses off as court after court found that their stories were firmly based on observable reality.
Horseshit.
When hundreds of civilians are murdered by terrorist, that’s not the moment to talk about rewarding the terrorists, which is exactly what they are asking Israel to do.
To be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR: Israel has offered peace deals and two state solutions many times before. Palestinians always walk away.
So this should be the moment that progressive turn to the PALESTINIANS and say, time for YOU to end the occupation by taking a peace deal that isn’t your favorite, because this terrorism shit is 1000% evil and unacceptable.
We have a lot of nightmare scenarios in the future: Trump wins, Trump loses and we get insurrection part II, Biden wins and we don’t take the house and keep the Senate, and we have at least 2 more years of gridlock while our lives continue to get shittier, etc etc.
The true tragedy is that there isn’t even a good outcome in the mix. Biden wins and Democrats take Congress. Fine, will they fix the courts? Fix student loans? Will they even try for universal healthcare? Universal Basic Income? Anything even close to meeting the moment?
So depressing.
Anyway, vote Biden so at least we don’t wind up in a fascist dictatorship.
Man, the Republicans are going to be awfully upset when they realized that the anti-vax lunatic they propped up appeals way more to their base than to ours.
Well, there’s a lot of red tape when you’re indicting a member of the royal family / German Shepard.
Agreed. It would be pretty cool if the Palestinians would accept one of the many peace offers that have come their way.
Yes. But it is objective reality.
And the rest of the world would be doing the Palestinians an enormous favor of they told them that in no uncertain terms.
