Jumping on this to second it and also be shamelessly elitist. Factorio is the automation game. Nothing tops it. You may think other games look more beautiful, exciting, or engaging, but they are not. Factorio is also one of the cheaper automation games out there with one of the best developers in the industry. Definitely give it a go!

The cost of housing is rising faster than pretty much anything else, so it’s inevitable that any well intentioned scheme to help first time buyers will ultimately become completely unaffordable unless something else changes. Thanks! Such schemes exist in my country, so I’m curious now to look up some of the reasoning behind those schemes and see how they argue around or attempt to compensate for this.

Fair argument, but in principle lots of taxation is about redistributing wealth to those who need it, and it doesn’t have to result in debt for future generations.

I’m pretty sure it’s just trendy to call Google search shit, and to criticise the top product. I’m also pretty sure DDG is just uses Bing search under the hood (plus it’s privacy features), so I always thought these complaints were quite funny. The ads on Google are probably the most aggressive though, which IMO is the worst part.

I really get this feeling. I remember at uni seeing adverts for scholarships and internships from huge and exciting companies that, in only a few more words, essentially said ‘if you’re anything other than a straight white male, sign up!’. I won’t speak to the value of effectiveness of these programs, but I can really understand how that could create a feeling of unwantedness that the alt right tries to give an answer for.

Absolutely, for many it’s nice to be under one name even if there is no legal need. I do think though that in a world where taking the male family name is not a default and anything can happen, double barrelling becomes problematic as a solution. You can only double barrel so many times! We need a new tradition that is equal for everyone and scales well. My favourite is what I once witnessed at a fantastic wedding. Before cutting their cake, the happy couple literally did a coin flip to choose who would take the other’s name. It was easily the most exciting part of the day.

At a press level, sure, and the same for the average user. Legally speaking these numbers do have significance, though. Amazon Web Services (at least at one time) offer a guarantee of 99.99% uptime for their infrastructure. That 0.001% covers things like once a year outages that make the news. A 10000th of a year is actually a tangible amount of time and not even Amazon is confident enough to ignore it.

Yeah same here, I’ve only had mine a few months but I’m having a blast with it and don’t see why that has to change just because there’s something a bit nicer out there.

I’ve just started playing Factorio. Played a bunch before but never with the deck. It feels like it should be completely viable honestly but the official controls and the top community controls confuse me. I’m taking the time to craft my own ‘perfect’ control scheme and loving it.

I have this power, and one little caveat of it is how much I crave dozing, ie being awake, sleepy, and cozy but not needing to get up. I guess could just set my alarm earlier but I need the sleep more

The 20mph part is most infuriating. Obviously not paying ‘rip-off fines’ sounds great but I honestly don’t even know what he’s talking about. But 20mph is great, and from a driving experience perspective the difference to 30 is so arbitrary. How changing that back is letting drivers ‘live their lives’ I have no clue.
