Not if you want RCS. Google still refuses to make a user-level API for some reason. So you can only use the messenger app bundled with your phone for RCS.
You can always switch off RCS and fall back to SMS. There are a few media features you can use through MMS, but MMS support is being turned off I a whole bunch of countries, so SMS should be the most basic thing possible.
