I’ve got a System 76 Oryx Pro and unfortunately I don’t think I would ever recommend it to someone. It has some glaring issues with the default fan curve that cause it to be incredibly loud when doing anything, and on top the only way to fix it is to customize, build from source, and flash the firmware on to the device. Some of the small things like keyboard lighting settings and whatnot are also part of the custom firmware and aren’t persisted between boots. I know they’re working on it, but that machine specifically at least just has too many issues for me to pass on to a novice. For what it’s worth I am having it run Fedora.
