I know the correct answer is to stop using Facebook, but there’s a couple communities I follow for certain updates I can’t get anywhere else.

Is there a good third party open source app for Android?

Last time I checked (which, I admit, was several years ago), it was usable for viewing normal posts, which is all the OP wants.

Using Firefox mobile with an ad blocker but it doesn’t block Facebook ads or sponsored posts.

Get a private DNS that does it for you. I really don’t have any recommendations since I rarely browse the internet when I’m not at home, but I do know it’s a thing.

        Iirc they’re pretty cheap.

Yep, both Adguard and Mullvad offer free adblocking dns servers to everyone, would recommend the Mullvad one for anyone looking.

They’re a bit limited compared to extensions (doesn’t block all ads, leaves a blank space or an error in their place sometimes too), but if you use them on mobile they also have the effect of blocking ads that are built into apps
