I’ve been on the Fediverse for like 2 weeks and the system itself was pretty good and even enjoyable. But I can’t stand what’s being posted recently. It looks like the humanity is just dead. The negative influence is real on here (and I think it’s around the same on other social medias) plus I have some personality development issues now that do cause vulnerabilities to that. I don’t want to die with this society so I have to go. I will most likely miss some of the places from here and I will miss my username but hey surviving and being able to help people in the future is much more important. Goodbye Lemmy. It was a nice experience
EDIT: everyone who made me stay here is to be fought. This place has some good things to it but still there’s too much for me to handle. And there is bad stuff too which is not that easy to notice but it does intoxicate me over time. FOSS is good but FOSS community sucks.
It’s up to you to curate your experience. If you opt for the firehose, you’re gonna get everything, sludge included. At a minimum block what you don’t like, or even better subscribe to what you do like. But it’s on you.
Godspeed GNU, hope you find yourself a place that works for you
Why not just switch your default view to subscribed?
“All” was awful on reddit, it’s slightly less awful on lemmy but still bad.
I’ve spent a few weeks on Lemmy/all blocking things I don’t care to see, and honestly it’s now pretty good. Plenty of diversity still and easier than subscribing plus occasionally new things pop up that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
I really need to do the same.
Feel free to join !casualconversation@lemmy.world to keep this light hearted
Didn’t understand what you meant here. My English is suffering from some sources list issues
The community I linked can be interesting to you, it’s mostly relaxed discussions
I checked it. Such communities have a moderate chance of the appearance of overwhelmingly destructive ideas. Including the fact that most of the active Lemmy users seem to support these, I consider it not a great place for me. But thank you for the suggestion
Interesting, do you have an example of such destructive ideas?
I have this weird issue that I can’t remember obvious and simple examples of almost anything. Asking for that will result in growing confusion, misunderstanding and possible hate. I no not want that to happen, especially on this community that seems relatively positive so far
This isn’t Twitter or Facebook. You choose your home instance and you choose what you see (except when browsing global). Essentially, your “algorithm” is a reflection of yourself. You might need to clean up your subscriptions. This almost feels like victim-blaming, but I have a handful of profiles on various home instances and they all give me vastly different feeds.
I definitely feel it, I’ve been using the Internet less overall for the same reason. Something important to remember too is that it’s an election year with a lot of stuff going on in the world, but it’s so much effort to block everything. I’ve been using Kbin less because the only way to really deal with spam is to block the endless bot accounts. I’m mostly just on Beehaw because I like the community, I’ve honestly found a large portion of the other Lemmy’s to be very inflammatory. It’s not worth having other people in your life, so why have it on the Internet?
Connect with real people, it’s more fun of a time waste, if not a little more effort. (Not that we aren’t real on the internet, just that the attitudes differ).
- Election years just make people show themselves. If it’s not an election year, there will be less aggression but the issue itself will not go away. And I wasn’t even talking about political stuff. Politics is aggressive that’s true. But there are other things as well and if a person is just like that, they will show it even in normal topics such as open-source software release news
- People irl bad. Me not understand them. Me autistic disaster. Me gonna get heart attack if try to interact
How are you filtering the site so that’s what you see?
Or are you just another person being dramatic about seeing jeans and animals in sunglasses?
