question: Anyone know the sale name of those amber warning lights that go off when a truck is coming out and are there any specific laws against running one on your own driveway?

I ran a short story competition at some schools for the kids to win copies of my books and I’m reading through the entries today and man, kids are morbid. It’s kind of funny how wild their imaginations get.

And one of them had a genuinely sad and depressing ending. It was a story about a girl and her mum and it mentions she doesn’t know where he dad is and how she wishes she had a sister and then bed creatures attack her and kill her mum and she runs away but theres more monsters and she runs back into the house and lays on her bed ending it with ‘why should I save myself. I’ve lost everything I’ve loved.’

Oof, I remember writing some real grim stuff when I was in primary and highschool lol. Scared a couple of my English and Literature teachers.

Kid’s imaginations are wild, untamed places lol

Wowww that’s brutal. How old are the kids? That’s a cool competition though! How will you select a winner?

Primary school age. I don’t have any details on them aside from name (for obvious reasons) but I’d say they’re grade 4 and up.

Well, picking winners was easy for 2 schools. There were going to be three winners from each school. One school submitted 3 stories and one submitted one so they win by default. I’m currently writing each a personal letter congratulating them and some thoughts and writing advice.

The other school submitted 10. I haven’t read them yet but I’m gonna feel bad for the ones who don’t win. I’m almost considering giving them all a copy.

(I took these photos on the 7th while I was away, intending to post with a joke but never did. So just pretend today is the 7th)

Even when I’m in literally the middle of nowhere

I will never forget my Melbourne roots!

Anyone else obsessed with Royal Autopsy? They make some leaps I think are a bit big, but the demo models are amazing. Best historical in ages.

8:40 and we still haven’t hit 10°, Perth is having a chilly start, also. We aren’t likely to get to 20° today.

So I’m watching YouTubers that are travelling in northern Australia. At one particular site (Tom Price Tourist Park) they paid 80 dollars at a campsite for the privilege of pitching a tent.

In many SE Asia countries you could get a very nice 4 star hotel room for that price, usually with a nice breakfast included.

And people wonder why people don’t do tourism in Australia.

years ago i went with the fam and some friends up to the old station at mt mulligan, maybe cost 1000 for the week including all traditional aussie cooking meals

now it’s gone luxury units and would cost at least 10,000

      And nice food too.

Some of the best aren’t in touristy areas, but in somewhat remote villages.

You probably already know, but just in case, be aware lemsip has paracetamol in it so you can’t take panadol at the same time, as you can exceed the dose.

Weather has cleared to a beautiful day but it’s doing very little to dent my absolute disdain for humankind today. Greedy, shortsighted, self-absorbed, no thoughts for anything other than their own convenience and comfort. So many of our species don’t deserve planet Earth. I truly wish I could send a good chunk of people off to another planet with no pesky insects, grass, trees, water courses, and other such outrageously offensive items, and they can live surrounded entirely in man made constructs and sheer rock.

No, they would not. They want to live on their own house blocks, but if a leaf from a neighbours tree should fall in their yard, they will throw a raged fit. They will install nothing but concrete and fake grass in their own yards, and spend their evenings kicking over any saplings the council tries to plant in nature strips or parks. Probably because ‘leaves’ and ‘birds’.

Times like this I just want to retreat to a hidey hole in the countryside and spend time with birds and possums and let the whingers of mass destruction live in their moonscapes so neither of us have to deal with each other…

One good thing about these mid winter days is that the angle of the Sun is perfect for streaming into my kitchen windows. It warms it up plus is a mood lifter.

It’s too much of a bleah day, and the second night in a row I can’t use my shower because the landlord messed up their emails telling me it was gonna get re-caulked or something yesterday (and I just rolled over and said OK even though I had basically zero notice and can’t use my shower for 36 hours). Too peopled out to ask a friend to use theirs. Just retreating to bed with a cuppa and a pitiful mood and gonna have a yarn to my auntie interstate to feel a bit more at ease

Hmm… my health is deteriorating and it may now be time for invasive medical measures. That’s if I can pester hard enough for them or pay privately. Love that for me

Oh I’m sorry Melba. I hope you’re doing alright

Don’t be afraid to be an arsehole if that’s what you need to do to get the healthcare you need.
